ASUS N81Vg Appears With NVIDIA GeForce GT 120M

Earlier this month, ASUS became the first PC maker to ship a laptop with Intel's latest Atom (N280) within. Now, the company is becoming the first to introduce a notebook with NVIDIA's GeForce GT 120M graphics processor. The 14-inch N81Vg is equipped with a LED-backlit display and is available with an array of Intel Core 2 Duo CPUs.

Further specifications include 4GB of DDR2 memory, a few different hard drive choices (up to 500GB), a 1.3-megapixel webcam, a DVD burner (as standard) or a Blu-ray writer (optional) and a rechargeable battery that should last three hours under most conditions or four hours if you're being extra careful.

Obviously, the highlight of the machine is the GPU, which features NVIDIA's CUDA technology, 32 processing cores, DirectX 10 support and 1080p high definition video playback via the company's PureVideo HD technology. The card should enable multimedia enthusiasts to play back practically any video and audio file they have with ease, and Rene Haas, General Manager, Notebook Products, NVIDIA even claims that "with 32 powerful processing cores, the GeForce 120M GPU makes photo editing, video editing, movie ripping, high definition Blu-ray playback and gaming a reality on 14-inch notebooks." We're also told that its ability to deliver 110 gigaflops of computing power helps to convert video and playback of video files with up with 15 times higher frame rates.

The 3DMark 2006 score of 5,431 won't blow any minds (at least not within the hardcore gaming circle), but it can probably handle a few less demanding titles with poise and grace. As ASUS typically does, we're left hanging on a price and launch date, but we're expecting it to start shipping anytime.

I'll take it with only 32 stream processors its not the best gamer?

5,400+ may not be that bad of a score given we are not told what CPU was installed in the test machine or who ran the test. Also for anyone interested, someone hit 15,042 with a Sager 9262, the highest laptop score I have ever seen at least. Amazing!!
