AMD Rocks Gamescom 2013: Partners with Publishers to Showcase Latest PC Gaming Evolved Titles

You may have heard that AMD is in some way, shape, or form powering each of the three next generation game consoles (Nintendo Wii U, Microsoft Xbox One, and Sony PlayStation 4), but don't you worry, PC gamers, the Sunnyvale chip designer hasn't forgotten about your platform of choice. Far from it, AMD made at splash at Gamescom 2013 in Cologne, Germany, by partnering with several developers to showcase the latest PC titles that fall under its Gaming Evolved program. Need a refresher?

"AMD’s Gaming Evolved program represents our deep commitment to PC gamers, PC game developers, and the PC gaming industry to deliver innovative technologies, nurture open industry standards, and to help the gaming industry create the best possible gaming experience on the world’s best gaming platform—the PC," AMD explains on its Gaming Evolved website.

Battlefield 4 at Gamescom

It's all about promoting the PC platform as the world's premier gaming environment, and putting its money where its mouth is at, AMD painted the Gamescom convention red with its heavy branding and hardware throughout. In fact, AMD was the exclusive hardware provider for Battlefield 4 at Gamescom. There was an 8 versus 8 setup in the 18+ area of its booth where gamers lined up to play against each other, some of which were donning capes.

AMD Capes

Yes, we said capes. AMD gave away 3,000 branded Superman-style capes because, well, why not? Free swag is free swag, and there are certainly worse things to wear at a games convention than a cape.

One of the neat things about Gamescom is that the public can get in and spend some hands-on time with titles. And many do exactly that. Gamescom is the largest games event in the world with nearly 300,000 visitors and hundreds of exhibitors from around the globe.

At this year's event, AMD drove all the systems for its Gaming Evolved partners with Radeon hardware, including Deep Silver, Square Enix, EA/DICE, and Red5. Publishers stepped up to the plate by showcasing several titles, such as:
  • Battlefield 4
  • The Sims 4
  • Firefall
  • Saints Row IV
  • Need for Speed Rivals
  • FIFA 2014
  • Murdered Soul Suspect
  • Final Fantasy XIV

The takeaway from all this is that PC gaming is in great shape, both from a hardware standpoint with AMD intensely committed to the platform, and from the perspective of developers who certainly haven't forgotten where gaming's roots are entrenched.
