I guess if you buy 2 of these in SLI,you get a better performance than a single GX2,at least now with bugged drivers |
2 x 9600GT doesn't beat the 9800GX2. |
forget 2 x 9600GTs... GO WITH 3!!! TRI-SLI 4EVA!!! :) Hopefully some benchmarks of tri-sli, quad-sli will start to come out once the 9800 GTX cards are released and we can get an idea of what these 9xxx series can do! |
im glad the prices are going down its gonna allow a lot of people to upgrade there systems that wernt able to before because of prices |
I'm sure that would rock, but since I favor Intel chipsets I either want the absolute most powerful single slot solution or I've been contemplating a crossfire X setup with a 3870X2 + a regular 3870.

2x9600GT is not quite 9800GX2 performance, but it only costs $~350. Do the price:performance math. 9800GX2 usually performs a little bit better than 8800GT SLI. And, 8800GT SLI usually performs a little bit better than 9600GT SLI. I haven't seen the two compared, but I'd wager 9800GX2 is thus moderately faster than the 9600GT SLI. And for $200+ less? Plus it's cheaper than the 3870X2 and beats it most of the time as well. The 9800GX2 is only for people who want the best possible performance per PCI-e slot regardless of price. Everyone else, there are better options. |
That about sums it up... the GX2 is deffinately an option for me and not a bad 1 since I shouldn't have trouble getting $400 for my Ultra as long as I sell it soon. If anyone wants to make me an offer on my evga 8800 Ultra, feel free to PM me.

cant believe u can get such a powerful card for just 130$ , few years ago , u couldn't think of such performance at such price . |
me neither maybe a sign of things to come |
Yeah... for the price the 9600GT is 1 helluva card. |
9600GT is priced ok,but the GX2 is way overpriced! |
That's the privaledge it gets for being the top performer. They always cost more than they should given the performance. But when you're #1, you can charge whatever you want. This is why I wish ATi had a comparable high end card, but the 3870X2 performs more like an 8800GTX or Ultra most of the time. Which isn't bad, but doesn't measure up to the new GX2. |
NOICE!! I guess I should look into the 9xxx series a little bit more; is it still built around the G92 core? and it is 65nm right? |
Competition in all its glory. Excellent. The 9600GT is G94 core. The 9800X2 is two G92 cores. The 9800GTX could be either. I don't think the word is out yet. |
