$20 AT&T "Naked DSL" Arrives

What's "Naked DSL?" It's DSL you can get without having to have phone service as well. With more people going totally wireless phone-wise, it's a "tier" people want.

A year after agreeing to offer a no-strings DSL deal as a part of its acquisition of BellSouth, AT&T has started selling high-speed Internet service without requiring consumers to buy regular telephone service.

The San Antonio-based company added the DSL Lite option to its Web site Dec. 20. The new offering, priced at $19.95 monthly, allows consumers to connect to the Internet without having to also pay for a landline, as had been required.

Talk about sneaking it into action, however.  It's not easy to find either; you'd be better off calling about it if you want it.  Additionally, despite the AJC story, we could not find it without a one-year contract.

I have AT&T land-line phone service, along with their DSL Elite (3-6Kbps down). The special rate on my DSL has expired and I am now paying more for it ($34.99 monthly). Then on a recent phone bill I discovered that AT&T is now charging $9 a month for caller ID. That is ridicules, and I am not going to fork-it-over. It seems AT&T is pricing itself out of the market by trying to ding it's customers for more moola whenever they can. Soon I will be switching to Time Warner's ALL THE BEST plan: digital TV, high-speed cable, and digital phone for about $90 monthly. Bye bye AT&T.

Um so does this mean that you can get AT&T DSL on any phone line?  I would so love to get off my dialsuck and Verizion doesnt offer DSL where i live.  Best i could hope for was Cell Net service, but some massive line of 120ft pine trees blocks my view to their tower so im SOL cause even though my neighbor has their service and can see their tower they dont want to put in a reapeater so they could point my antenna at his tower to use his antenna to get the signal cause they only do that for residential area's with 5 or more people connecting to their repeater.  Angry

No, you would need an AT&T land-line to get their DSL. Have you considered the SATELLITE OPTION, or are those pesky pine trees thwarting you there, too? As Smokey The Bear always says, "Only YOU can prevent forrest fires!"Surprise

Satellite for gaming...um HELL NO! I would rather have my dailsuck over Satellite any day. The 1000ms+ replies kills you in gaming creating a lag slide show.
