HP HDX 18t Premium Series 18" Notebook Review

15 thumbs up

Synopsis:  HP's HDX 18t Premium Series Notebook is a mammoth 18" desktop replacement machine with a wealth of multimedia-targeted features and capabilities on board. With a stylish, glossy exterior, large keyboard area with touch-sensitive illuminated buttons, a TV tuner and remote control, this machine screams Media Center PC. It has a fair bit of gaming under the hood as well, with NVIDIA's GeForce 9600M GT powering its graphics subsystem.  It's a well-rounded machine at a fair price ($1599 as tested), that will serve a multitude of usage scenarios for the family or power user with perhaps the exception of hardcore gaming solely focused on frame rate.  All told we think the HP HDX 18t is a solid value for the money, is well built and specified and with stylish good looks, will dress up the coffee table quite nicely.

I dont see the point in a laptop this big, but Jen really wants a big laptop. I think she is looking for a bit more gaming power though.

Good point lpcap, but the HDX 18t matches up on every spec except for the video card and it cost about a thousand or more less. So I say if you are not concerned about the video card aspect then the HDX 18t is the way to go. The video card is good enough to play pretty much any game out there now, you just might have to turn the settings to meduim - low if the game is really graphically intense.

Plus right now if you buy it today (6/27/09) there is a coupon code that will give you 30% off the HDX 18t. Here is the code: NB2556. There are usually more coupon codes every week if this one expires before you can use it so google it.

I loved this pc but the battery life is awful I only got about an hour at most out of it. I just recently had it stolen and I am looking for another laptop that is equal to or comparable to this one. Any ideas

Welcome to HotHardware; please be aware when you bump threads that are two years old...

Anyways, if your looking for a laptop; you might want to check out Dell, ASUS, Levono and maybe Acer... Me, I prefer Levono due to the fact that they make the self-proclaimed "best in the world" ThinkPads and their customer service is really, really good... Again, up to you; you can search on the internet for the laptop you like; just be sure to search for those brands first.
