Google Will Gladly Help Find You The Perfect Android Smartphone

Navigating the sea of Android phones can be a bit overwhelming, especially for anyone who is new to the platform (first time phone buyers, iOS defectors, and so forth). There are a lot of devices to choose from and they're as varied as the people who choose them. That's one of the best things about Android, though for anyone is feeling lost, Google has a new tool to help narrow down the choice.

The "Find the Android phone for you" tool asks potential Android phone buyers three or more questions, beginning with what they use their phone for. The options include taking photos, listening to music, being productive, social media, gaming, watching videos, being on the go, staying fit, texting and instant messaging, talking, web browsing, and expressing my style. Selections are made one at a time, though users can choose as many as they want before getting a recommendation.

Depending on what is selected, Google will dig a little deeper with follow-up questions. For example, if little Billy chooses gaming, the next question asks him often he plays games on his phone. The choices are I haven't kept track, less than an hour a day, 1-2 hours a day. or 4+ hours a day. It does down another level to figure out what kind of games little Billy prefers.

I went though the process choosing photography, social media, and texting as my three categories. Based on those selections and a series of follow-up queries, the tool recommended for me an LG G4, HTC One M9, or Nexus 6. Not bad, considering I own an HTC One M8 and also wouldn't mind either of the other two.

The tool is not for everyone -- namely, power users who are already familiar with the Android landscape. But for a mainstream user who feel they're in over their head, this is a good place to start.
