Lamborghini Screams Excess With 750HP Aventador LP 750-4 SV Roadster, Hits 60 MPH In 2.9 Secs

Lamborghini debuted the open top version of its sleek and sexy Aventador LP 700-4 Superveloce that was introduced at the Geneva Auto Show earlier this year. For the topless LP 750-4 Roadster model, which is the first and only of its kind in the Superveloce family, Lamborghini headed to Pebble Beach and rolled out its marvelous creation at the Quail Motorsports Gathering over the weekend.

By taking the top off, Lamborghini was able to reduce the Aventador's weight by 110 pounds for a dry weight of 3,472 pounds. Under the hood is the same 6.5-liter V12 engine found in the LP 700-4, but as the model number suggests, the lighter Roadster gains 50 horsepower for an obscene 750HP rating, same as the Veneno Roadster from a couple years back. That translates into a 0-62 miles per hour time of 2.9 seconds; top speed is 271 mph.

"The Superveloce is the purest, most sports-oriented and fastest series production Lamborghini ever. The Roadster version represents our commitment to satisfying our passionate clients with immensely emotional driving dynamics combined with an extraordinary open air experience," said Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini.

A 7-speed ISR transmission harnesses all that power and doles it out to all four wheels through a Haldex Generation IV four-wheel drive system. Other fancy technologies include an adaptive Magneto Rheological Suspension, a pushrod dampening system, and Lamborghini Dynamic Steering (LDS) for improved driving dynamics -- same as the SV Coupe. Safety first, right?

Lamborghini is only making 500 of these things, 100 less than the SV Coupe, though it's not the limited availability that puts the Roadster out of reach of most people, it's the price tag -- $530,075. And yes, like the SV Coupe, the Roadster is destined to sell out.
