Newest Batman: Arkham Knight PC Patch Applies Band-Aids To Gushing Wounds

After taking a mulligan on the PC version of Batman: Arkham Knight, which was pulled from store shelves just days after its release and re-launched a month ago, developer Rocksteady Studios and publisher Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment (just WB from here on out) have released yet another patch to fix a litany of issues.

This newest update introduces over a dozen fixes and improvements for various issues. They run the gamut from fixing a hitch during some game saves and squashing a bug that causes full screen movies to play at half the monitor's refresh rate on some systems, to addressing missing rain effects on several Batman skins and getting certain types of lights and shadows to render correctly.

WB said the patch also adds support for the new November DLC, which is now available for everyone, or at least the ones who didn't opt for a refund. It's not known how many PC gamers have taken WB up on its offer to return the title, though one thing that's clear is the game will never live up to the developers' original ambition.

That much was made clear earlier this month when WB confirmed it was abandoning efforts to support multi-GPU game play. WB came to the conclusion that the potential payoff wasn't worth the risk of breaking the game or the time it takes to clean up the code for SLI and Crossfire configurations.

"We’ve been working with our development and graphics driver partners over the last few months to investigate utilizing multi-GPU support within Batman: Arkham Knight. The result was that even the best case estimates for performance improvements turned out to be relatively small given the high risk of creating new issues for all players," a developer for WB said. "As a result we’ve had to make the difficult decision to stop work on further multi-GPU support. We are disappointed that this was not practical and apologize to those who have been waiting for this feature."

To WB's credit, even though it no longer plans to add multi-GPU support, it's continuing to release patches focused on improving performance across the board. It's just a shame that more attention wasn't paid to the PC release in the first place.
