Google Boasts 70 Percent Data Savings With Chrome Browser for Android

Google indicated in a blog posting this week that Data Saver will now reduce your data consumption by up to 70 percent, which is a huge increase over past versions. Instead of only employing compression technology, which reduces the quality of images on webpages, the new version of Data Saver will also block most of the images that would typically be displayed on a website. Once the page has completely loaded, you have the option of clicking on an individual image to make it visible, or tap to load all of the images at once. Or you can just simply try to enjoy the text-heavy version of the website.

Google says that this enhanced Data Saver “[makes] the web faster and cheaper to access on slow connections.”

Unfortunately, there are a few caveats for those wishing to hop right in and try out the newest version of Data Saver. For starters, it’s currently only available to users in India and Indonesia. This makes sense, however, as users in those countries typically endure much slower wireless connection speeds than those of us in the United States spoiled by nationwide 4G LTE coverage.

In addition, the new Data Saver is currently only accessible to those using Android version of Chrome. Those running iOS will have to wait a bit longer to get some lovin’ from Google.
