Well, the time has come. Lenovo has just launched the LePad in China, and now only time will tell if such a crazily designed device will do well or fade into the background. We suspect that it'll prove quite popular actually, but only wish it were making a quicker trip to America. Lenovo's obviously based in China, so it's not uncommon for some of their devices to sell first in the homeland. The LePad is an Android-based tablet that was launched on Monday in an exclusive Chinese media-only event, and while no one is publicly saying that this is Lenovo's attack on the iPad, it's pretty clear that... If you had any lingering doubts that tablets and smartphones were the wave of the future, this should probably quell them. Lenovo, a major notebook and PC maker, obviously sees the importance and potential growth in mobile computing. Convergence is still happening in a bit way, and the need for full-blown computers is shrinking with each and every mobile innovation from CPU, GPU, and mobile broadband manufacturers. Tablets are more powerful than ever, as are smartphones, and neither trend seems to be slowing. In fact, Lenovo is getting real serious about focusing on those two areas. The company... Read more...
Lenovo really is on a roll here at this year's CES. First came a bunch of new notebooks, and now this: the official introduction of the IdeaPad U1 Hybrid with LePad Slate. Now, we have heard about and seen these devices before. Even as far back as CES 2010, this units were making the rounds as prototype devices. It's been a long ride for them. Instead, it's a 2-in-1 device that combines the mobility of a slate with... Read more...
Recently, with the introduction of the Indamixx 2 and a few tablets from Eurotech, we're beginning to think that specialized tablets may be the next big thing. Apple's iPad has so badly dominated the standard tablet market already that some companies are taking a slightly different approach. Rather than taking on the iPad in a game that it's great at, some companies are tweaking their slate PCs in order to make them somewhat differentiated. It's a smart strategy. Everyone that wants a tablet in the shape of the iPad is probably going to purchase an iPad. But what if you want something a little... Read more...
Well, what do you know? Another tablet PC! We're halfway joking, but there's no question that 2010 is quickly becoming the year of the tablet. Apple just this week released their first quarterly earnings with the iPad included in sales, and they managed to sell more iPad devices than Mac computers in the past quarter. That's a pretty clear indication that the tablet revolution is back on, and just about every other company in the market place is scrambling to catch up. Lenovo has long since held an edge in the business notebook realm, with their rugged, classy machines seeming to end up in corporate... Read more...
