Elgato and Dyle mobile TV announced the EyeTV Mobile accessory. This TV tuner for iOS devices brings live streaming TV to your iPad, iPod Touch, and iPhone. The compact ATSC-Mobile tuner receives mobile TV signals from a miniature antenna, so you don't need an Internet connection or unlimited data plan to take advantage of free streaming TV. With the accessory, users can access live broadcast TV from Dyle partner stations as well as other stations that are broadcasting to mobile in a specific market. The EyeTV Mobile accessory connects to iOS devices with 30-pin connectors (or via an adapter).... Read more...
Streaming cable TV to a tablet has been a dream for more than a few A/V junkies, and now that's partially becoming a reality thanks to Elgato. The company's new HDHomeRun PRIME app for the iPad 2 is now available on the App Store, and will work in conjunction with the Silicondust HDHomeRun PRIME line of CableCard-enabled network tuners to enable users to stream and record live premium cable TV to the iPad 2. Whether users want to watch the news in the kitchen while they make dinner, the baseball game on the patio on a warm evening, or late night TV without disturbing anyone, the HDHomeRun PRIME... Elgato's doing it again. The company, which tends to focus on video-related gear for Mac users, has just released a dual network tuner that enables users to watch HDTV wirelessly on either a Mac or PC. The HDHomeRun box connects to a TV antenna or digital cable and wirelessly streams live television in full HD to any Mac or PC in the house, and it's powered by technology from SiliconDust. Inside, it's a network dual tuner for HDTVs, and it works seamlessly on multiple computers. One person can watch and record TV on a Mac, and at the same time a second person can watch and record a different channel... Read more...
Apple's Mac Mini has been viewed as a legitimate HTPC contender ever since the original model was released years back. People immediately began hacking the mounting options to get them onto the backs of their televisions, and with the new model, it became an even nicer solution. With a more powerful CPU and GPU, more storage space and great connectivity options, many use the Mac Mini as their primary Boxee Box. But there are a number of chinks in the armor. For one, there's no TV tuner option. And second, there's no Blu-ray option. It's hard to take an HTPC seriously these days if you can't incorporate... Read more...
While North American definitely gets a lot of things first, it's lagging behind when it comes to content distribution at home. Japan has Blu-ray burners everywhere for burning content that see on television, and the UK's Freesat can be easily transferred between devices. Who knows if that functionality will ever come to America, but if you're in the United Kingdom, Elgato has a new device that'll make watching Freesat television a lot easier. The EyeTV Netstream is a compact box that will enable users to stream Freesat satellite television to any PC on your home network, and even to your iPad via... Read more...
It's a real shame that Elgato's latest piece of software is Mac-only, but for those who rely on Apple's operating system to get their computing done, this one may just be worth a look. For anyone who has ever tried to edit a few clips together in iMovie and then export that into a smaller file format for uploading, you probably understand the frustration that comes with waiting for hours as it converts and transcodes. It's almost unavoidable. Elgato, a few years ago, introduced a software/hardware solution called the Turbo.264 HD. While that worked great in speeding up the transcode process, it... Read more...
Elgato has produced a number of video-related accessories, primarily for Mac users, over the years. Generally speaking, they're best in class, with the Turbo H.264 USB stick helping to convert huge, huge videos to smaller H.264 files that suffer no loss in quality (and in record time, too). Today, the company is branching out somewhat with a new EyeTV HD, hailed as the "ultimate DVR for high-definition TV." It's essentially a full-featured DVR, with full access to premium cable or satellite TV content on a Mac. The box allows users to "watch, record, edit and enjoy cable and satellite in high-definition,... Read more...
This weekend has been chock full of iPad news, but there's a little bit of iPhone news to share this morning as well. Elgato's heralded EyeTV app has received an update, but this isn't just any update: it's probably the most important update a media streaming app could get. The latest version of EyeTV (1.0.2) now allows for streaming of live TV signals over Wi-Fi as well as 3G, the latter of which is brand new in this release. Previously, the app only allowed users to watch TV on the go while near a Wi-Fi connection, which wasn't exactly practical except for when stopping in at an eatery or Starbucks.... Read more...
If you're interested in turning your computer into a HDTV and DVR, then Elgato's new EyeTV One may be something you're interested in. This digital TV tuner connects to your TV antenna and delivers over-the-air TV broadcasts to your Mac or PC. Best of all, since these over-the-air broadcasts are free and offer excellent quality, you could finally nix the cable company's monthly bill for digital TV services once and for all (that is, assuming you're happy with the number of stations available over the air). For Mac users, EyeTV One comes with EyeTV 3 software that lets you watch, rewind, fast forward,... Read more...
