Apple has sold 2.8 million Apple Watches in the U.S. since putting their fancy-schmancy smartwatch on the market just two months ago, this according to the e-mail receipt tracking company Slice. The company's report also says that 17% of those buying the wrist adornment are shelling out for an extra watch band, too, giving the Cupertino timepiece producer a nice double-dip into the cash reserves of their beloved customers. The sales figures for Apple Watch are said to put the timekeeping device at the definitive forefront of the smartwatch market, well ahead of Samsung (which... Read more...
An iPad prototype was among the loot taken in a house break-in robbery that took place in Cupertino earlier this month, according to the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office. The victim of the crime, a 20-year-old man, was also taken from the house, though he was fortunately released by the perpetrators less than a mile from the event scene. Along with the iPad the robbers also took other electronics, prescription drugs, and $7,500 in cash. Authorities have arrested Katherine Stump, 20, and Alexander Nejat, 25, in connection with the theft, charging them with four felony counts, including kidnapping... Read more...
The early Apple Watch sales numbers are in, and to the surprise of not very many at all Apple's hyper-hyped new device blew the doors off the Internet on Friday, selling out the entirety of the company's initial stock in just six (6) hours.  As reported here on HotHardware, pre-sales for the Apple Watch got underway Friday morning at 12:01AM PST (an unfair-by-virtually-all-standards 03:01AM on the East Coast) and just an hour later the shipping dates on orders for the shiny new wrist-worn technological marvel had slipped past the April 24 official launch date and into June and... “Best office building ever” is how Peter Oppenheimer, Apple CFO, described Apple’s proposed new headquarters in Cupertino. The ring-shaped spaceship-looking structure will be built on the former site of the 175-acre HP campus, and in addition to the architectural ambition, the site will have a strong focus on being green. The polished glass and slick design reminiscent of the iOS devices (and in fact initially designed in part by Steve Jobs and Jony Ive), the building will use a natural ventilation system to eliminate the need to run air conditioning 70% of the time, smart LED... Reports point to an October 4 event to unveil the next-generation iPhone, although it's still not confirmed by Apple itself. One problem with the rumor has already been pointed out: Moscone Center, where Apple usually holds these things, is booked by Oracle that day. What to do, what to do? AllThingsD, which earlier broke the Oct. 4 date, says it appears Apple will hold the event on its Cupertino campus, in its Town Hall Auditorium. Although it will be years before its new spaceship-style HQ is built, one which has a facility worthy of these types of events, Apple has held these types of events... Read more...
The fat cats at Apple have reason to celebrate, and we're not talking about the successful launch of the iPad. Not directly, anyway. The Cupertino gang turned in record financial results for Apple's fiscal 2010 second quarter ended March 27, 2010, at least for a non-holiday quarter. Apple posted revenue of $13.60 billion and net quarterly profit of $3.07 billion, which works out to $3.33 per diluted share. That's a pretty sizable bump from one year ago when quarter profit sat at $9.08 billion and net quarterly profit at $1.62 billion, or $1.79 per diluted share. "We're thrilled to report our best...
