There's an interesting competitive dynamic forming between Bose and Apple, two companies that suddenly became rivals when the latter acquired Beats by Dr. Dre. It's been a bit of a contentious relationship so far, with Bose suing Apple for patent infringement and then re-upping its deal with the NFL as its official audio sponsor, effectively banning players from wearing Beats gear in most game-related situations. Now we hear that Bose is getting into the streaming music scene, setting up even more competition with Apple. It also makes things a bit awkward. According to Venture Beat, Apple... Read more...
Just as you won't find any copies of Windows 8.1 or Surface Pro 3 tablets being sold in any Apple Store locations -- Apple and Microsoft are rivals, after all -- the Cupertino outfit is no longer carrying Bose products, either. Like Microsoft, Bose is now a competitor to Apple following the company's $3 billion acquisition of Beats Electronics. Apple used to sell a selection of Bose-branded speakers and headphones, but all such inventory has now been pulled off of store shelves. The move isn't all that surprising, not just because the two are competitors now, but also because tensions are high... Read more...
Well now, that was fast -- rather than let their legal beagles bark at each other in court, Apple and Bose came to terms on a settlement agreement that puts to rest the latter's clam that the former is infringing on proprietary patents that mostly involve noise noise cancelling technology. Prior to the settlement, Bose sought to block Apple from importing its Beats headphones into the U.S. Bose also wanted Apple to pay monetary damages, and though terms of the settlement have not been disclosed, it's a safe bet that money is what Bose will receive (you know, as opposed to a box full of Beats headphones... Apple just got sacked by Bose after the audio company blitzed the National Football League (NFL) to become the league's official headphone and headset brand. Bose and the NFL extended their sponsorship agreement back in March, and as part of the deal, players and coaches must remove headphones from any other manufacturer during televised interviews. That includes Beats by Dre, a popular brand among professional athletes such as Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman and San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, both of which have endorsed the Beats by Dre brand in the company's "Hear... Apple found itself a willing dance partner in Beats, the audio company it agreed to acquire for $3 billion back in May, its biggest acquisition ever. That may have put a giant target on Beats' back, as it now founds itself being sued by Bose Corp. for allegedly infringing on the company's noise-cancelling technology patents. "We are committed to protecting our investment, protecting our customers and defending the patents we own," Bose said in a statement. "For over 30 years, Bose has made significant investments in the research, development, engineering and design of the proprietary technologies... Read more...
Regardless of whether or not you consider yourself an audiophile, or even a technology lover fascinated with audio, you've almost certainly heard of Bose. The name is essentially impossible to avoid. It's in television ads, stores are plentiful, and just about every flight that departs has at least one person on there sporting a pair of Bose headphones. Much has been debated about the overall quality and general lack of transparency that the company shows when it comes to raw specifications, but all that aside, the technology universe lost a great figure this week. Dr. Amar Bose, a former member... Read more...

Bose. It's a name that most people recognize. It's a respected, and equally controversial, name in audio. But mostly, Bose has focused on home theater and bedroom audio systems. They have branched out into headsets and over-ear headphones in recent years, as well as putting their name on a new HDTV setup earlier in the year. But now, the company is doing something radically new and different: a Bluetooth headset. What's interesting about this move is that Bose isn't riding a bandwagon. In fact, most would argue that this ship has sailed. Bluetooth headsets aren't nearly as popular now as they once... Read more...
Bose. It's a name that has been associated with high-end speaker setups, home cinemas and headphones for years. Some people aren't much on the company's tactics (like reserving the specifications from the box), but some swear by the brand. One thing that Bose hasn't really done over the years is branch out; they've done audio, audio and more audio. But now, they're doing something a little different. Years after the HDTV explosion swept over America, Bose is just now deciding to produce their very own television. The VideoWave entertainment system was just introduced, offering a home theater sound... Read more...
If you think PC gamers have an expensive hobby, well, you're right, but holy moly do those $150 headphones feel like Blue Light specials compared to the new Bose A20 Aviation Headset, the latest pair of earbuds aimed at pilots. These things run $1,095, or $995 without the the Bluetooth mobile phone connectivity feature thrown into the mix. So what does this have to do with PCs? Nothing really, but we're suckers for technology, and the A20s have that in spades. And if we're to believe Bose, the A20 is the "most advanced aviation headset ever." Ever!? Part of the reason Bose makes that claim is because... Read more...
Bose has never been a company to shy away from the high-end luxury market, despite what the pundits may say. Some slam the company for not publishing very many specifications about their products, but the trick--as they say--is in the sound. The company has today introduced a new Lifestyle V-Class and T-Class product line, two home theater sound systems that combine 5.1 channel audio with Bose's new intelligent integration system. That new tech enables the systems to "overcome much of the growing complexity of setting up and using HT systems." Basically, Bose is making it easier than ever to actually... Read more...
"Bose" and "budget" just don't go in the same sentence together, and that fact has never been more true with the introduction of the company's latest iPod music system. As families across the world look for ways to cut back, Bose is helping you find new ways to splurge, as the SoundDock 10 is right up there with the most expensive iPod accessories known to man.We never expected a device to make B&W's Zeppelin Mini look inexpensive, but the large MSRP here sure had that effect. Packing a traditional Bose design, this one-piece speaker system is considered a "premium" device and was designed... Read more...
The greatest name in sound? The only name in sound? Yeah, something like that. Whatever Bose's slogan happens to be these days, the company is doing itself proud by introducing yet another glorified set of cans designed to help you tune out mortar fire and crumbling buildings, not to mention airplane noise and rowdy children.Dubbed the "quietest Bose headphones ever," the fresh QuietComfort 15 acoustic noise-cancelling headphones are said to be the company's best performing, ever. While details are scant on the product itself, Bose tells us that the QC 15s "offer more attenuation in louder environments... Read more...
Love 'em or hate 'em, Bose has been making music for years now, and it doesn't sound like the company is planning on slowing down anytime soon. While it has seemingly been quiet on the consumer electronics front of late (after it got done with all of its Apple-related wares), the outfit is introducing an all new system today that should catch the attention of those who store all of their music on their PC, but wish to listen to it elsewhere. The simple-yet-effective SoundLink is a two-piece system that is comprised of a USB dongle and a flat-faced stereo. But simply, users just plug the USB dongle... Read more...
