Windows Users Gain Access to iCloud Drive Before Mac Users

Yesterday, Apple rolled out the iCloud for Windows update giving Windows users access to iCloud Drive. While the update also rolled out for iOS 8, Mac users will have to wait since OS X doesn’t support iCloud Drive yet. At least, not until OS X Yosemite rolls out later this fall.

Meanwhile, Windows users who own an iPhone can take advantage of the iCloud Drive’s features. Once iCloud has been set up on a user’s device, they can then download iCloud for Windows and set it all up on their PC. Once done, Windows users will have access to most of iCloud’s features including the ability to sync Photo Stream and Safari bookmarks with Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Chrome. Those who have Outlook 2007, or later versions, installed will be able to sync their iCloud mail, contacts, reminders, and calendars.

However, while Windows users have access to iCloud Drive before Mac users, they won’t have access to all of its features. Windows users will not be able to use iCloud Keychain to sync passwords and it won’t provide any “Find My Device” functionality as it will for iOS and OS X versions.
