Microsoft Xbox One Game Controllers to Be PC Compatible with Drivers

When it comes to first person shooters (FPSes) and real-time strategy (RTS) games, there's nothing quite like a keyboard and mouse combination, especially if you own a sweet gaming plank with macros and a rodent with a ton of easily accessible buttons and high-sensitivity laser. But for some titles -- Assassin's Creed and pretty much any sports game -- a console controller is arguably a better fit.

Ready for some good news, PC gamers? The Xbox One controller will work on Windows PCs! Well, eventually it will. Microsoft apparently told Computer and Video Games (CVG) that it's working on adding official support for the controller on Windows PCs to be introduced in 2014.

Microsoft isn't intentionally delaying things, and instead points to the fact that the Xbox One controller is an entirely new beast compared to the Xbox 360's controller.

Xbox One Controller

"As we've stated, the Xbox One controller, although it looks similar in many ways, shares no underlying technology with the current Xbox 360 controller. New wireless protocol, combined with the ability to work in 'wired' mode, and the addition of features like Impulse triggers, means that new software has to be written and optimized for the PC," the Microsoft rep told CVG.

There's also work that needs to be done to make sure that games currently supporting the Xbox 360 controller will work seamlessly on the Xbox One controller. It's all a bit challenging, but one way or another, it will get done by sometime next year.

I have patience to wait. I use my X360 gamepad for the PC religiously, so am very glad to see this one will be supported as well. Those analog sticks look like they'd be much better to use than the ones on the current pads.

This is of huge relief. I love using my xbox controller on my pc. I'd would be completely upset if they didn't move the new controller to pc.

It's really a no-brainer since MS is trying to combine their products user experience. It would be amazing to see the One controller go from your Xbox One to your computer to your windows 8 tablet (huge if it works on RT as well) then to your WP8. 1 controller 4 ways to game. Hope you're listening MS
