Could Fleksy Become Your Next iOS Keyboard?
It's hard to argue that iOS is a solid, feature-rich mobile OS, but when it comes to customization, it lacks a lot in comparison to Android, thanks to Apple's desire to keep a tight reign on most of it. Well, with a just-released SDK for a replacement keyboard called Fleksy, there's a glimmer of hope that at least one part of the OS can be altered for the better, and without the need to jailbreak.
Due to iOS' design, taking advantage of Fleksy is quite a bit different than simply installing a keyboard replacement app. Instead, while you do need a standalone app installed, third-party developers who wish to integrate Flesky into their apps will have to add the support - but apparently it's so simple, there's no reason why an app developer wouldn't.
To a lot of people, a mobile keyboard might just be a mobile keyboard, so what does Fleksy bring to the table? For starters, it has fantastic aesthetics, as seen in the shot above, and implements a patent-pending prediction technology, and claims to offer one of the best autocorrect solutions around.
With the release of the Fleksy SDK, it's going to be interesting to see how many developers decide to support it, and perhaps more than that, I can't help but wonder if Apple is going to let it slide. On the surface, it doesn't seem to break a single rule, and it can only be used in apps that support it (which rules out intercepting the keyboard in official apps), so it should be fine.
