Boxee Box Release Pushed Till November
Unfortunately, that doesn't look like it will be the case. According to a new post on Boxee's own blog, the original plan was to have the Box out by the end of Q2 (i.e. just about now), but that time-frame "proved overly ambitious." The crew confessed to wanting the Boxee Box on sale "yesterday," but they've just recently received confirmation that the box will not ship until November in the U.S. and Canada.
The goal here is to bring the Boxee interface, which has been a huge hit on the PC, to the living room via a simple (and oddly shaped) set-top box. That also means supporting Flash 10.1, and that also means doing it at a price that's reasonable. According to the team, the November date currently seems pretty solid, and they believe that it will "deliver a user experience that sets the standard for accessing stuff from the Internet and from your home network on your TV."
Delays on new devices such as this, particularly when dealing with start-ups, isn't uncommon. It's not easy to deal with, but it's no huge shock. We're just glad to hear Boxee keeping us all abreast of the situation, and we guess a bump until November won't be the end of the world. At least we've got the iPhone 4 to keep us occupied until then, right?
