Acer Announces Aspire Timeline Ultra M5 Ultrabooks

Acer is keeping the ultrabook train rolling with the introduction of the Acer Aspire Timeline Ultra M5 series, a family of ultrabooks that measure just .81 inches thick and weigh 4.3 pounds. The series will have 14- and 15.6-inch models that will feature an 8-hour battery, Ivy Bridge Intel processors, NVIDIA graphics, and Acer Green Instant On and Instant Connect that reinstates the computer from sleep and gets to the Web fast (respectively.

The chassis sport a silver aluminum alloy design with backlit keyboards and built-in speakers with Dolby Home Theater v4, and the 15.6 models have a very thin bezel around the display. Intel’s Anti-Theft technology is also available with a subscription and runs from the BIOS; Acer’s own AntiTheft software is also onboard.



More models are coming, but the first two off the assembly line are the 14-inch M5-481TG-6814 and the 15.6-inch M5-581TG-6666, both with CineCrystal LED-backlit HD displays. Both models feature an Intel Core i5-3317U processor, NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M graphics, 500GB (5400RPM) storage drive with a 20GB SSD, 8x DVD SuperMulti double-layer drive, 2-in-1 card reader, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, and a 1.3MP webcam.




The smaller of the two starts at $779.99 and rocks 4GB of DDR3-1066MHz memory and has a pair of USB 3.0 ports, HDMI (with HDCP support), and headphone/mic jack; the larger M5-581TG-6666 ($829.99) has the same ports but adds a USB 2.0 port and an Ethernet port, as well as 6GB of DDR3-1066MHZ memory.
