AMD Catalyst 14.9.2 Beta Driver Enables Mantle Support For Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth

Congratulations to those of you who've spent the weekend playing Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth -- it sure beats raking leaves or any other chores that are typically reserved for the end of the work week. Want to make your gaming experience even better? If you own an AMD graphics card with the Graphics Core Next (GCN) architecture, there's a beta driver available to enable the Mantle API in Beyond Earth.

AMD Catalyst 14.9.2 is now available to download, and in addition to bringing Mantle to Beyond Earth, it also includes dual graphics optimizations for KritiKa an SheDiaoZeroe, and a Project Cars profile update.

The rest of what's included in the driver package are a bunch of fixes for various bugs. For example, Catalyst 14.9.2 resolves an issue in Total War: Rome 2 where it will sometimes display texture corruption when on the campaign map (it only affects CrossFire configurations).

There are still some known issues that AMD is working to resolve before its latest Catalyst driver goes gold. One of those is a graphics stuttering issue in Beyond Earth under high map zoom with high image quality settings -- AMD and Fireaxis are currently tag teaming the problem, along with a separate issue in which the interactive and visual elements of the mouse cursor can become offset.
