Microsoft’s Futuristic HoloLens Headset Shipping To Eager Devs ‘Within The Next Year’

With the launch of Windows 10 now behind us (hard to believe it's finally happened, isn't it?), Microsoft can begin pimping one of its next "big" products: HoloLens. By now, what HoloLens can do shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone - it's in effect the ultimate augmented reality solution. But it needs tools and software to really sell itself, and it's for that reason that Microsoft has given us some roadmap details.

Microsoft's CEO Satya Nadella, in a new interview with the BBC, said that HoloLens is going to be a five-year journey, and while it's ultimately going to become available for consumers, business is the company's initial focus. Considering the fact that we're still trying to see some VR market penetration, this isn't really a bad thing.

While the company can't give us even a vague timeline of when HoloLens will hit the market, it has hinted that developers will be able to get their hands on the device within the next year. Like many pre-release gadgets, it seems likely that these would not be cost-free, but that's the price to be paid for being first to use and develop for the cool new headset.
