Intel Release User Friendly SSD Toolbox 3.0

Intel Release User Friendly SSD Toolbox 3.0

Intel today made available version 3.0 of its Solid State Drive Toolbox software designed to help Intel SSD owners optimize and keep their drives running in tip-top shape as if just unboxed. This new version makes it easier than ever to update firmware, run diagnostics, and perform optimizations right from within Windows with a redesigned and streamlined user interface.

This free utility also includes a system tuner that makes system configuration recommendations geared towards squeezing the most performance out of your SSD. It does this by detecting and determining if things like SuperFetch/Prefetch should be disabled, and whether or not to turn off ready/boost, defragmenter, or DIPM, all of which are services designed to make mechanical hard drives run faster, but could potentially have a negative impact on SSD performance.

"Super easy and elegant, the Intel Solid-State Drive Toolbox helps users embark on the road to the faster performance of SSDs without having to deal with the complexities of the drive," Intel said in a statement. "It makes it easier for consumers to make the technology leap as SSDs become more mainstream. Intel SSD owners can download the new toolbox free at www.intel.com/go/ssdtoolbox. Additional information about Intel Solid-State Drives can be found at www.intel.com/go/ssd."

The new Toolbox is now available in 11 languages as well.

It's nice to know that Intel can make an elegant program that helps non-technical people manage the life of their solid state drive and keep it in check... If I ever get an Intel SSD, I'll be sure to test it out.

Also I wonder if this program will work on non-intel SSD's. It'd be cool to use this on a OCZ SSD or a Corsair SSD.

This will definitely be handy!! (if I'm ever lucky enough to own an SSD!) :p

"I really like the interface and simplicity of the Toolbox, nice features. Resembles my Anti-Virus program."

Nice set of tools that should be available for any SSDs... I agree Taylor I wonder if it works with other brands and if not if we might see an Open Source solution come to fruition shortly with the same type of tools.

Unfortunately this is an Intel-only thing since a lot of the underlying technology is specifically designed to optimize performance and endurance of the drive, its firmware and the SSD controller used.

Oh well I figured this particular software probably only worked for Intel SSD's but one can hope that something will come down the line and address many different manufacturers :)

It does look like cool software. I think that all of the SSD Makers should take this as a hint and develop their own versions.

yep I am with you Neil I hope that other SSD makers can follow up with having a simple user interface to optimize the performance .I guess a way of looking at it since SSDs a pretty pricey and many of them are extremely fast...some mainstream folks may ask which is going to be the easiest one to set up !..on the other hand hand they can certainly come over to HH and hang around with some of us and get the best scoop and have some fun .who knows ? they might even win a rig with a SSD too

/shameless un-biased plug !

OK ya got me liked & shared Done !
