In preparation for the impending arrival of the company’s 3rd Generation Core processor products based on its Ivy Bridge microarchitecture, Intel has readied a new chipset dubbed the Z77 Express. We have already been able to show you a number of Z77 Express-based motherboards, thanks to a handful of sneak peeks while out at CES early this year and a few briefings that took place afterwards, but today we can finally give you the full monty on the chipset itself. We have been playing with a few Z77 Express-based motherboards for the past couple of weeks, evaluated their performance, and have gathered up our data for you here. On tap in this round-up we have motherboards from MSI, Gigabyte,... Read more...

ASUS, ever the gracious hosts, had us out to Dallas, TX recently to show us the company’s upcoming motherboard series and let us play with some test systems to see if we could break them. (Full disclosure: We did. But we fixed them, we think.) There is much we learned there that we can’t yet discuss (suffice it to say you’ll want to stay tuned for more on Intel's 3rd generation Core series processors and 7-series chipset), but we can tell you all about the new line of ASUS motherboards based on Intel’s Z77 series chipset.... ASUS’ strategy of late has been simple but effective: start with something that is rock stable and just works, then build on it, and allow for... Read more...
Although MSI isn’t revealing too many details on its new X79 and Z77 motherboards, the engineering samples were out and ready to ogle. As you can see from the photos, we got to look at a trio of the new boards. The Z77A-GD80 and Z77A-GD65 are kind of a pair, with the GD80s typically delivering some more features at a slightly higher cost than GD-65s; currently, though, with what little information we have to go on, there is little to differentiate the two. However, allegedly at least one MSI board will be packing Thunderbolt, and it’s reasonable to think it may be the GD80.           L to R: Z77A-GD65, Z77A-GD80, and Big Bang-XPower II Both... We already told you about some of Gigabyte’s next-gen motherboard technology, but as expected, the company has lots more in the offing, including a bevy of mobile gear and new 28nm Radeon HD 7970 graphics cards. And of course, we have loads of pictures for you. Starting with the upcoming Z77 motherboards, we’ve already seen images of the GA-Z77X-UD3H, G1.Sniper 3 and G1.Sniper M3, and the small business-oriented B75M-D3H. Now, we have photos of a few more Z77 boards, as well. Bear in mind that these are mostly engineering--note the lack of the G1 series' trademark green-and-black color scheme, for example--so things will likely change somewhat, but it's still a great look at what...
