That didn't take long. HP has publicly confirmed that it has cancelled plans to bring a Windows RT (aka Windows on ARM) tablet to market in time for the Windows 8 debut. The company has decided to focus on its x86 customer base instead. HP spokesperson Marlene Somsak has said that "The decision was influenced by input from our customers. The robust and established ecosystem of x86 applications provides the best customer experience at this time and in the immediate future." In the wake of Microsoft's Surface unveil last night, much of the buzz has been about Apple, and how Surface will (or won't) challenge Apple's domination of the mobile and tablet markets. This makes some sense, given Apple's recent high-profile unveil of the Macbook Pro with Retina Display, but Surface isn't really meant to go head-to-head against any Apple product. The true potential casualties are Android's share of the tablet market and AMD. Wondering what Windows RT -- that upcoming version of Windows designed to work on ARM processors -- looks like on forthcoming hardware? We figured the answer would be "yes." Toshiba recently unveiled a Windows 8 RT product of its own, a Transformer-styled device that was first seen at Computex. Inside, there's a Texas Instruments OMAP 4470, which apparently offers up plenty of power to churn through the WinRT demands. Now, there's a video of a functional prototype, showcasing some movements of the OS and highlighting the TI chip within.
