Abit's KT7A-RAID Socket A Motherboard Don't miss out... By Marco "BigWop" Chiappetta March 8, 2001 The competition in the CPU and motherboard chipset markets over the last year or so has been incredible. AMD has evolved into Intel's fiercest competitor and are consistently gaining market share. AMD's Athlon line of CPUs have steadily won over power users and budget shoppers alike with their high performance and relatively low prices (at the time this is being written a 1.2GHz T-Bird is selling for $236, while a 1 GHz Pentium III sells for $251). AMD can attribute their current market status not only to their great product, but to another company's efforts...VIA Technologies. A great... Read more...
Shuttle AV14 Socket 370 Motherboard It's does everything right...but nothing great. By, Marco ?BigWop? Chiappetta 10 / 12 / 2000    My first assignment when I initially joined the Hot Hardware team was to review a VIA Apollo Pro 133 based board, the AV61 from Shuttle Inc. I was very excited to get my hands on this product, because at that time the 440BX had already been available for quite a while and was lacking some of the features the Apollo 133 brought to the table. I wasn't very familiar with Shuttle products so I was also intrigued by the opportunity to test hardware from another company. The AV61 has been through a few revisions and has evolved into the board we are looking at... Read more...
Soyo's K7ADA ALi DDR Socket A Mobo... With some Crucial PC2100 RAM and a WBK38 thrown in! By Marco "BigWop" Chiappetta April 18, 2001    It seems that regardless of which PC component we speak of today the subject of bandwidth, and more specifically memory bandwidth, seems to take center stage. Recent discussions in the video card arena have really brought the importance of alleviating the memory bandwidth bottleneck to the top of many enthusiasts' minds. Video cards are not the only parts where performance gains can be realized by increasing available bandwidth though. In the never-ending quest to bolster the overall performance of systems based on their CPUs both major players,... Read more...
Soyo's SY-7VMA - PM133 Socket 370 Motherboard The i815 should be nervous... By, Marco "BigWop" Chiappetta 12/7/00 Competition.  It seams like that is one of the first words to come to mind when discussing the current PC hardware scene.  When you think of video, the competition between 3dfx and nVidia always comes up. Think of processors and immediately an Intel versus AMD debate breaks out.  Well folks, the bickering is about to get worse! It seems like we may have another topic to discuss, motherboard chipsets.  For years, Intel was the dominant force in the chipset arena.  AMD and Intel also had a much better relationship; in fact AMD actually manufactured... Transcend's  AVE3 Socket 370 Motherboard A newcomer makes a splash By, Marco ?BigWop? Chiappetta June 7, 2000    There are a lot of heavy hitters in the motherboard market right now.  Companies like Asus, Soyo, Tyan and Abit, among others, are always thought of first when it?s upgrade time.  Times change though, and today we?ll take a look at a board from someone relatively new in the motherboard arena, Transcend Information Inc.  The company was founded in 1988 and generally focused on memory modules prior to manufacturing motherboards.  The Transcend AVE3 is not the first motherboard they have delivered to the market however.  They actually have a full...
