Hey everyone, here's your afternoon dose of news. I need to suck down a couple coffees and head out, so let's get to it... Dual-core-capable Pentium platforms compared @ The Tech Report "Intel's dual-core chips may be cheap, but they won't plug into just any LGA775 motherboard. The processors require a chipset from Intel's 955/945 family or NVIDIA's nForce4 SLI Intel Edition, so upgrading is more involved than simply buying a new CPU. Fortunately, motherboard manufacturers have flocked to Intel and NVIDIA's new chipsets, so there's no shortage of dual-core-compatible motherboards from which to choose." Why?  Feast your eyes below.  Marco and I are out at CES in Las Vegas right now and we've captured some spy photos of a few new motherboards that we're sure will pique your interest.       Alrighty then, it's an Intel Socket T (LGA775) board from none other than EVGA.  They're making an entry into the mobo market with a bit of  a splash.  This is no ordinary Socket T board though. Take a closer look...       That's right people you're looking at dual PCI Express slots in a standard desktop board and we were told in a private session... Read more...
Good morning gang, it's time for the morning news update at HH. It's been a hardware week that I would soon like to forget. I just wrapped up building my first HTPC, nothing crazy, just wanted to do it. Of course, nothing could go smoothly and it took close to a day to get things working right. Then, not a week goes by and the hard drive decides to die, so it's back to reinstalling. Thankfully the second time around went well and now things have settled down nicely. Along with lots of TV and moview watching, I got to catch the latest Red vs Blue on a full screen. If you haven't checked these guys out yet, you should. Pretty funny skits with a Halo theme. Gainward's AGP8X NVIDIA Powered "Golden Samples" Giving Things a Boost with AGP 8X By - Jeff Bouton December 03, 2002 When it comes to maintaining longevity in the video card market, nVidia seems to have the process down to a science.  Since the release of the GeForce4 series of GPUs last year, the product line has enjoyed a rather successful maturation process.  This maturity in nVidia's products has given manufacturers the ability to be creative with their designs, offering a wide variety of graphics card combinations.  Now, it isn't uncommon to see Ti4200 cards being offered with higher core and memory clock speeds, giving them Ti4600-like performance levels at a fraction... The ECS D6VAA Dual-CPU VIA Powered Motherboard Double Your Pleasure, Double Your Fun... By, Marco "BigWop" Chiappetta July 26, 2001 Dual-CPU systems, previously reserved for use as high-end servers, have now become affordable due to the efforts of companies like ECS, Abit, Intel and Via (among others).  With the increased popularity of Windows 2000 and relatively "low" prices of SMP capable CPUs like the Pentium III, running a Dual-CPU rig on you desktop is now a viable option to the true hardware enthusiast or discerning power user. There is a common misconception when it comes to SMP (Symmetrical Multi-Processing) systems though.  I have been in many situations... Read more...
