The powerful GeForce GTX 1080 got the lion’s share of media attention immediately following NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang’s official unveiling at an event in Austin, Texas a couple of weeks back. But its little brother, the GeForce GTX 1070, was also mentioned along with its expected price point, which just happened to be far more attainable for most PC enthusiasts. As if we needed more reasons to fall in lust with NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 1080 graphics card, the GPU maker's hardware partners have begun releasing custom variants that up the ante with more aggressive aesthetics, superior cooling, and faster clockspeeds. We saw it yesterday with EVGA's GeForce GTX 1080 Superclocked ACX 3.0 Edition, and now ASUS and Zotac are following suit with custom designed Pascal parts of their own.We'll start with ASUS, which tapped its Republic of Gamers division to construct the ROG Strix GTX 1080. We're all lusting over NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 1080 graphics card and dreaming of having two of those beasts configured in SLI, but for the more frugal enthusiast, the GeForce GTX 1070 can't be ignored. It's the other graphics card NVIDIA introduced as part of its impressive Pascal launch, and to followup with that, we now have specifications to share. We always knew Pascal was going to be a big deal, but we couldn't have predicted that NVIDIA would come out of the gate with a pair of graphics cards that are each faster than a Titan X, one of which will be priced at $379 when it debuts later this month. Could there be a better way to end the work week than being introduced to a new generation of graphics cards? It appears that's what NVIDIA has in store—the GPU maker sent out a Twitter message inviting the public to tune into a special event that it plans to stream live on Twitch tomorrow. If you work a typical 9-5 shift, you won't have to worry about missing the event live. It kicks off at 6 PM Pacific (9 PM Eastern), so as long as your commute is under an hour long, you should be home in time to see what NVIDiA has up its sleeve. There's been a ridiculous amount of hype surrounding NVIDIA's upcoming GeForce series, which is based on the Pascal architecture. At the company's recent GPU Technology Conference, we learned that the first shipping Pascal card is the ultra-powerful Tesla P100. While that card is designed strictly for compute purposes (there are no video outputs), we're sure to see a GeForce that will match the P100 in terms of specs. If so, that means we could see a card that's theoretically twice as fast as the GeForce TITAN X without having to go the dual-GPU route. At last week’s GPU Technology Conference, NVIDIA’s CEO Jen-Hsun Huang unveiled a couple of key products and technologies that target the High-Performance Computing, or HPC, space, including the Tesla P100 data center accelerator and its companion DGX-1 deep-learning system, which is a powerful server that has up to eight Tesla P100 cards at its core. Yesterday, during his keynote address at GTC 2016, NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang made a number of interesting announcements and disclosures. We saw Apple co-founder Steve “Woz” Wozniak take a virtual tour of Mars and witnessed the official unveiling of NVIDIA’s Tesla P100, which is based on the company’s bleeding-edge, GP100 GPU. GP100 leverages NVIDIA’s forward-looking Pascal GPU architecture and features 16GB of HBM2 memory, all built using TSMC’s 16nm FinFET manufacturing process. NVIDIA just pulled the wraps off its fastest GPU and compute engine yet: the Tesla P100. This new GPU powerhouse is based on NVIDIA’s next generation Pascal architecture, which means that it’s built on a 16nm FinFET process. But even with thoroughly modern FinFET process tech, the Tesla P100’s die size measures 600mm2 due in part to the 15.3 billion transistors that comprise the new compute engine — nearly twice that of Maxwell, for reference. The specifications of the Tesla P100 are second to none, as double-precision performance is rated at 5.3 teraflops (TFLOPs), while single-precision performance comes at 10.6 TFLOPs. NVIDIA hit it out of the park with its fourth quarter earnings, that the company reported this afternoon. The silicon valley graphics and system-on-a-chip titan outpaced last year’s already strong performance with revenue of $1.4 billion (a 12 percent increase from the same quarter a year ago). Net income came in at $297 million, or 35 cents per share. NVDA's full fiscal year 2016 was reported at $5.01 billion, which was a 7 percent increase over fiscal 2015. The company’s quarterly performance far outpaced analysts’ expectations and NVIDIA was rewarded with a 7 percent share boost in after hours trading. At last year’s CES NVIDIA’s CEO Jen-Hsun Huang unveiled the original Tegra X1-based Drive PX digital cockpit computer and discussed some of the difficulties associated with self-driving cars and the technologies that would be needed to overcome them. He discussed deep learning, deep neural nets, and the massive amounts of data that need to be collected and processed to ensure self-driving cars are not only safe, but instill confidence in the passengers and provide a good experience.
