It looks like Intel will make their lower priced follow-up to the quad-core Core 2 Extreme QX6700 processor available soon. Like it's higher-clocked counterpart, the Core 2 Quad Q6600 will feature a 1066MHz FSB and 8MB of L2 cache (4MBx2). With AMD's new chips expected to be out in Q3 2007, Intel has decided to cut prices for their Core 2 Duo and Quad models in the second quarter of 2007. There's some news out of Reutrers today that states Intel is already sampling 45nm Core Microarcitecture-based processors. Although not stated in the article, the 45nm core being sampled, codenamed "Penryn", is likely to incorporate more L2 cache than current Core 2 Duo processors, and will also have support for SSE4.
