There is no question, the year ahead in 2004, is shaping up to be a banner one for leading edge PC technology.  New features and performance abound, as new technologies such as PCI Express, DDR2 and GDDR3 find their way into the mainstream.  While the past few iterations of platform products have been more or less, "kicker" implementations of legacy technology, this year's refresh marks what could be exponential performance gains with a host of new features. Likewise, the 3D Graphics market is on a major run with NVIDIA and ATi leading the charge to real-time cinematic effects and what looks to be a significant boost in available rendering power and programmability... Good morning everyone, I hope you survived the weekend.  Mine was pretty quite for a change, I just kicked around the house with the little lady.  However, next weekend is going to be a different story; between my GF's birthday and Mothers Day (yes, mothers day is this upcoming Sunday) I am going to be pretty strapped for time.  Now, only if I could figure out what to get them :(  Nevertheless, it is getting late so lets open up the mail sack and see what we can find... ATI All-In-Wonder 9600 XT @ Viper Lair "If you already have the AIW 9600 Pro, this isn't an essential upgrade. If you're in the market for a gaming/multimedia card, I would still lean towards the AIW 9600... Read more...
Good Evening Folks!  Just in case you missed it, we've got a new review posted of ATi's All-In-Wonder 9600 XT.  The link can be found at the top of the page.  (Or just click here and save a few seconds!)... Read more...
When they initially released the All-In-Wonder 9600 Pro back in October of last year, ATi introduced a number of new features into their popular multimedia line of video cards.  The All-In-Wonder 9600 Pro was the first product in the line-up to offer dual-monitor support.  It was also the first to have an integrated FM tuner, and the Remote Wonder II made its debut, although it didn't ship with the card.  To compliment all of the new features, and to tweak existing features like the relatively new EasyLook menu, ATi also updated their Multimedia Center software as well.  The total package made for a very compelling product that offered solid gaming performance, and the most... Graphic Card Roundup A comparative look at what's out there now By Robert Maloney March 29th,  2004 Let's face it - we've all done it at least once in our lifetime.  We've all wanted to go out and put down this month's rent payment on a new all-powerful video card that can play our favorite games at mind-numbing speeds.  When some sense of sanity finally returns (usually after checking for non-existing space left on a credit card), we decide that maybe starting at the top isn't for everybody, and start looking for the next best option.  Obviously, most manufacturers are well aware of this, and for every "high-end" product they release there's also a mid-range and/or... ATi Introduces the HDTV Wonder Bringing High Definition TV to the PC By, Jeff Bouton February 26, 2004   While we are all sitting and watching the 3D Graphics card battles rage on, in the PC TV Tuner industry, competition is a little less prominent.  While a lot of enthusiasts are caught up in the hype of whose video card is faster and which one has the better image quality, there are other developments going in adjacent markets, that sometimes catch us off guard.  The latest of these developments is ATi's recent announcement of their new HDTV Wonder TV card that can deliver a High Definition Television experience to the PC.  Recently some manufacturers have made the jump... The ATi Radeon 9600 XT ATi Gives Their Mainstream Product a 100MHz Boost By Robert Maloney October 15th,  2003 Any way you slice it, it seems that NVIDIA just can't catch a break. Just when they seemed to pull out of their year-long funk following the GFFX 5800 introduction, by releasing the GeForce FX 5900 Ultra, they were called to the carpet again, over what they like to call, driver "optimizations". In a world where benchmarks can make or break the salability of any piece of hardware, just like critics can determine the fate of a movie ("Gigli" comes to mind), NVIDIA has done what they felt was necessary to paint their products in the most positive light. Why was... Read more...
ATi's All-In-Wonder 9600 Pro Unveiled (PT2) ATi Releases Their Best All-In-Wonder Yet By: Jeff Bouton October 6th, 2003     Hot on the heels of the latest news regarding the Radeon 9800XT, ATi have delivered on another front, finally releasing the All-In-Wonder 9600 Pro.  Back in early August ATi gave us a taste of what was on the way, with the latest All-In-Wonder sporting some unique new features not found on previous models.  Now, two long months later to the day, the new All-In-Wonder 9600 Pro is here. If there is one thing that is a true signature of the All-In-Wonder series, it's ATi's continuing ability to fit more and more features onto a seemingly shrinking PCB. ... Read more...
The ATi Radeon 9800 XT  256MB ATi Turns Up The Heat In High End 3D Graphics By - Dave Altavilla September 30, 2003 When ATi released the Radeon 9800 Pro earlier this year, the Toronto, Ontario Canada design team, had been working with a strong foundation, that was built on their most successful card ever, the Radeon 9700 Pro.  The base GPU architecture that would drive several iterations of performance enthusiast, mid range and mainstream products, was paying off in spades, versus their fiercest rival, NVIDIA.  At the same time, NVIDIA was failing to execute on any meaningful competitive new design effort.  The combination of NVIDIA's technological stutter-stepping and ATi's...   The NVIDIA Quadro FX 2000 And The ATi FireGL X1 Professional Graphics Solutions Do Battle By: Dave Altavilla August 20, 2003     Professional Graphics Cards are sort of an oddity to us here at HotHardware.com.  Admittedly, we don't get to tinker enough in this area, since frankly the market that is served by these products is a specialty niche´, where there just isn't the same level of marketing buzz, as in the Consumer Graphics space.  Not too mention, the fact that if you want to fairly represent a product's performance and features, from our perspective, one needs to look at a number of different application scenarios.  The high end CAD and 3D design and rendering...   ATi's All-In-Wonder 9600 Pro Unveiled Just When You Thought It Couldn't Get Any Better By: Jeff Bouton August 5th, 2003   It's hard to believe that ATi pioneered the TV/Video card with their All-In-Wonder product line and years later we find little competition in sight aside from nVidia's Personal Cinema line.  Perhaps the lack of real competition is due to ATi virtually mastering the TV/Video card concept by offering high end video solutions with equally high end graphic capabilities.  Over the years, ATi has continued to increase the value of the All-In-Wonder line by including a Remote Wonder with each model since the All-In-Wonder 7500 was introduced.  Another strength... ATI RADEON 9100 IGP Preview Integrated Graphics for the Pentium 4 By: Chris Angelini July 7th, 2003 ATI's engineers have worked hard this past year.  At the risk of being redundant, they've escorted to market the R300 series of Visual Processing Units (VPUs), they've spun off mainstream versions of the same chip for broader appeal, and they've successfully implemented the R300 and R350 processors (operating at full-speed) into the All-In-Wonder family of multimedia products.  What a busy bunch of beavers.  But there are other aspects of computing in which the expertise of a graphics company proves useful.  ATI's rival, NVIDIA, already knows that.  NVIDIA's nForce and...
