Recently ATi spent time with us going over their soon to be launched PCI Express based offering of 3D Graphics cards.  Although we're unable to share performance metrics with you today, due to the current NDA embargo status of Intel's forthcoming i925X, i915G and i915P chipsets (and ATi's coordination of availability for that launch), we can show you a bit about these new products, as well as the introductory model flavors that ATi will be bringing to market later this month. If you recall, back in March we covered both ATi and NVIDIA's approach to PCI Express technology.  ATi took the high road offering native integration of a custom built 16 lane PCI Express core in their VPU strategy....   The PC has undergone quite a metamorphosis recently.  Over the past few years, we've seen the boring beige boxes of yesterday, transform into the multi-colored, windowed and lighted works of art of today.  We've also seen (or should we say heard?) the community move away from multi-fan, super-loud cooling techniques, to more intelligently designed and near silent methods that are much easier on the ears.  And now, more and more users are even trading in their monstrous full-towers in favor of the much smaller and more provocative SFF systems available from companies like Shuttle, Biostar and Iwill.  With so many PC users making the move to distinctive, silent, and small... Good morning everyone :)  Well, it is holiday time up here in Canada; the so called "May Two-Four" weekend (you can guess what activities occur during this time).  Though I was unable to go away camping as I have in the past, I think it worked out for the best.  Last night we got pounded with a torrential thunderstorm that would diffidently have put a damper on spending the night outdoors ;) Nevertheless, I am home warm and dry, and I have a pile of news for you... Cheating the Cheaters@ HardOCP "It has been a while since we editorialized at length, particularly where it concerns the video card industry, but it is that time again. We changed our video card "review"... Read more...

ATI's Trilinear Filtering Chatlog @ Bjorn3D "As promised, ATI held a chat today with regards to Trilinear Filtering allegations. It was recently discovered that ATI has implemented a technique (something similar to NVIDIA's trilinear optimizations) that optimizes mipmap levels based on the next stage -- then applies proper filtering." DFI LanParty PRO875B Reviewed @ Hi-TechRevews.com "DFI's LanParty motherboards have become well known through out the enthusiast's community and the value packed accessories... Read more...
Welcome back HotHardware fans!  Today's announcement by NVIDIA regarding their new MXM (Mobile PCI eXpress Module) initiative has generated quite a bit of interest.  So much interest that we were able to get a statement from ATi on the topic.  Here's a direct "cut-and-paste" from the correspondence...   •"Industry Standard Module" - while the concept is great, this is not what is being proposed. An industry standard module would be created through the creation of a working group comprised of OEMs, ODMs, graphics vendors, etc - an industry standard comes through collaboration - that is not what has been done here (ATI and others were never consulted),... Good morning all.  It's time for a little hardware news for this Friday morning.  We have a good selection of reading for you, so let's get down to business. Today, Bjorn3D has a look at Imation's 256MB USB 2.0 Swivel Flash Drive: "People lose stuff. Whether it's car keys, a five dollar bill or a favorite pen, we all seem to lose things we don't want to lose. I guess people were losing their USB drive caps too, because Imation decided to come to the rescue and prevent any more lost caps. Most USB drives (commonly called pen drives and flash drives) are very similar in design, but Imation's USB 2.0 Swivel Flash Drive takes a new approach." Hexus.net checks in with two major... Good morning all.  Well, the trek is finally over and I am now a resident of North Carolina.  It definitely isn't like New York.  Things are cheaper, slower and much warmer.  We are looking at a heatwave for our first week here, topping 90 !  This will take some getting used to, but I think it was a good move.  I got up a little early today and started poking around the web for the latest happenings.  We've got some good bits for you, some hot off the presses.  Get to it! The Tech Report has a write up on VIA's K8T800 Pro chipset, Primed for Socket 939: "For everyday operation at stock clock speeds, this new clocking scheme doesn't mean much. However,... Read more...
Good morning HotHardware fans!  What a crazy couple of weeks, huh?  First the NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra hits, and then just over two weeks later ATi plays their hand and unveils the X800 XT and X800 Pro.  On top of that, Rob got back from his honeymoon, Jeff moved to NC, we launched the new site and finished a couple of reviews in between!  I'm sure I speak for the rest of the crew when I say it feels like we've just finished running a marathon!  The good news is, there's still a lot of exciting stuff on the horizon - We're still tweaking the site, Intel and AMD will be bringing some good stuff to market shortly, and we hear some other graphics companies may have a treat...
