There's plenty of skepticism floating around the web on whether or not smartwatches can truly represent the next big thing in technology, but perhaps two things working in its favor are Android Wear and the Moto 360. The former is Google's optimized version of Android built specifically for smartwatches, and the latter is Motorola's take on the smartwatch category, which is rumored to be available in July. A French-language website tipped the summer release, adding that it will cost 249 Euros (that converts to around $340 in U.S. currency). Google obviously has a vested interest in seeing Android wearables succeed, so rather than watch its hardware partners flounder around in a sea of custom platforms, the sultan of search introduced the world to Android Wear, a special version of Android specifically built for the wearable market. It's drawing interest from hardware players and developers, including LG, which just announced its working together with Google on a "G Watch" powered by Android Wear. The thing about knee-jerk reactions is they can cause you to do or say things you regret. Take Sony, for example, which very recently went on record saying it plans to pursue its own homegrown platform for smartwatches since it's already invested time and resources into it. That's understandable, but taking a defiant stance against Google's Android Wear platform, which seems to hold a lot of promise, is a huge gamble that isn't likely to pay off.
