Samsung Notebook 3 And 5 Series Announced With Premium Designs And 8th Gen Intel Core CPUs

Samsung Notebook 5

April Fools is a day that is typically filled with fake news in the technology sector, with companies engaging their funny bones with a barrage of prank press releases. So, you do not often see major tech firms announce products on the annual day of jest. Be that as it may, Samsung on Sunday announced its Notebook 5 and Notebook 3 machines, a pair of real-life laptops that aim to deliver "the perfect balance of style, comfort, and performance for casual gamers and general users."

Both notebooks are thin and light, with a "zero-screw contemporary finish" for an overall sleek looking design. Interestingly, the Notebook 3 is available in two different display sizes, including 14-inch and 15-inch models, The 14-inch version measures 336 x 232.9 x 19.8 mm (13.23 x 9.17 x 0.78 inches) and weighs 1.66 kg (3.66 pounds), while the 15-inch model measures 377.4 x 248.6 x 19.6 mm (14.86 x 9.79 x 0.77 inches) and weighs 1.97 kg (4.34 pounds).

Samsung's Notebook 5 comes in just one size, a 15-inch model that is a sliver thicker than the 15-inch Notebook 3, measuring 19.9 mm wide (0.78 inches), and weighs the same amount.

"Intended to fit the everyday computing needs of consumers – the Notebooks have a wide precision touchpad, full-sized keyboards with number pads, and ergonomically crafted keycaps for comfortable typing. With an anti-glare panel, and colors tuned by Samsung Color Engine for stunningly vibrant images and videos, both devices are built with precision in mind," Samsung says.

All three models come with 8th generation Intel Core processor options, along with 7th generation Core CPU options as well. They also boast DDR4 memory, SSD + HDD storage, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, and of course Windows 10 Home 64-bit. Differences between the three models (other than size and price) come down to resolution and graphics. Here's a look:
  • Samsung Notebook 3 14-inch: HD resolution, shared graphics
  • Samsung Notebook 3 15-inch: HD or Full HD resolution, shared or NVIDIA MX110 (2GB) graphics
  • Samsung Notebook 5 15-inch: Full HD resolution, shared or NVIDIA MX150 (2GB) graphics

Pushing the gaming angle might be a little overzealous on Samsung's part, especially with systems like Dell's XPS 15 2-in-1 emerging with multi-chip modules that pair Intel's CPU cores with AMD's Vega graphics. Nevertheless, casual gaming is a possibility, especially on the Notebook 5.

Samsung says its new laptops will ship this month in Korea, followed by wider global releases including China and Brazil in later this quarter.
