Alleged OnePlus 5T Leaked Render Reveals Galaxy S8-Like Design With Thin Bezels

There is some speculation that OnePlus will release a new handset in the next couple of months, potentially a OnePlus 5T or even a OnePlus 6. Fueling that speculation is a purportedly leaked press rendering of a the former, which is making the rounds on the web. The render shows a handset with an all-screen front side, rounded corners, and barely any bezel to speak of.

The render was uploaded to /Leaks by user Phoneleaks, who has a reported accuracy rating of 66 percent. In this instance, we are skeptical of its legitimacy, as are a few of the people who commented on the post.

"Obvious fake," one user writes, adding that he hopes that what will eventually be the OnePlus 5T (if in fact OnePlus is working on one) will have bezels that are just as thin as what is shown in the photo. Another user called the legitimacy of the photo in question by pointing out its low quality resolution (240p) and "poorly edited left display corning using old OP5 wallpaper."

The reason people are entertaining the idea that OnePlus might be on the verge of releasing is a OnePlus 5T is because the company's website is completely out of stock of the current generation OnePlus 5. That includes both models—users are no longer able to order OnePlus with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage ($479) or the higher end SKU with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage ($539).

Launched this past June, the OnePlus 5 has only been on the market for a few months. However, the same was true of the the OnePlus 3 when the OnePlus 3T launched—the OnePlus 3 debuted in June 2016 with a Snapdragon 820 SoC, followed by the OnePlus 3T in November, which bumped the processor up to a Snapdragon 821 SoC.

Whether the supposed OnePlus 5T render making the rounds is real or fake, it will be interesting to see what the final product will entail. The Snapdragon 835 is still Qualcomm's fastest chipset, though the company might have another chip in the works. We are also interested to see if the OnePlus 5T does indeed go with a near bezel-less design similar to Samsung's Galaxy S8 line and the upcoming Apple iPhone X.
