LG Watch W7 Hybrid Wear OS Watch Tipped For Launch Along Side LG V40

The wearables market is going strong, and the two major competitors in that market are the brand-new Apple Watch Series 4 and the Samsung Galaxy Watch. A new smartwatch is reportedly set to debut soon from LG called the LG Watch W7. A rumor claims that the LG Watch W7 will launch with the slick five-camera LG V40 ThinQ smartphone expected to land on October 3.

The tip comes from Evan Blass via Twitter, and he has an impeccable track record with leaks. The watch turned up previously in an FCC filing, but for now, there are no hard details on the wearable. The assumption is that it might use the Snapdragon Wear 3100 platform expected to launch in October. Qualcomm will certainly want a launch partner with a high-end wearable packing its chipset so that assumption makes sense, but that isn't confirmed.

Snapdragon Wear 3100 is the replacement for the 2100 platform that has been on the market since 2016. What we know about the new 3100 platform is that it has a quad-core Cortex-A7 processor cluster that works with a DSP and an ultra-low-power co-processor to handle less critical functionality of the watch to improve battery life. Longer battery life is a critical update for wearable users and will be a major reason that users upgrade their current-generation wearables.

The co-processor in the 3100 platform is the QCC1110, and Qualcomm claims that chip will "[re-define] audio, display, and sensor experiences for next-generation smartwatches." Snapdragon Wear 3100 will come in three flavors including GPS-tethered, WiFi/Bluetooth tethered, and a version with 4G LTE connectivity. There is no indication of which version the LG Watch W7 will use (if any), but there is a high likelihood we will see multiple versions of the W7 to hit different price points. Earlier rumors tipped the W7 to have traditional watch hands along with the digital display.
