Intel 10th Gen Core i5 Comet Lake-S CPU Leaks With 6 Cores And 12 Threads
Intel is assumed to be close to releasing its next-generation Comet Lake-S desktop processors, and while we wait for that day, an interesting entry has been spotted in SiSoftware's SANDRA database. The entry points to a 10th generation processor with 6 cores and 12 threads, and is very like bound for a "Core i5" badge.
The entry does not actually specify the model name, only that it is an Intel processor with 6 cores and 12 threads, along with 12MB of L3 cache and 3MB of L2 cache. It also lists the base clockspeed at 2.0GHz—likely because this is an engineering sample and not the final silicon that will ship to retail. While the model name is not listed, it's likely to be a Core i5-10xxx part.
Part of what makes this leak interesting is the database entry points to the unidentified chip being tested in an ECS H470-SF110 motherboard. We know from past leaks that the H470 chipset, which this board is presumably based on (given its model name), is intended for Intel's Comet Lake-S desktop processors built on a 14nm++++ node.
Yes, those plus symbols are adding up as Intel continues to stretch its 14nm lithography. Eventually it will make a transition to 10nm on the desktop, just as it has done in the mobile space with its Ice Lake processors. In the meantime, Comet Lake-S is on the horizon.
What also makes this leak interesting is Hyper Threading support. It seems Intel is planning to uncork its chips across the spectrum of its 10th generation Core lineup—as such, it's worth noting another SANDRA database entry for Comet Lake-S, a previously leaked Core i3-10100 processor with 4 cores and 8 threads.

Based on past leaks, Comet Lake-S will arrive on the desktop with up to 10 cores and 20 threads of computing muscle. There will be three tiers, including 125W, 65W, and 35W models, all of which will use a new LGA 1200 socket.
Comet Lake-S is intended to replace Intel's Coffee Lake Refresh processors in the mainstream segment. Despite introducing a new platform and chipset, however, PCI Express 4.0 will still have to wait for another day, based on leaked details.
As to when we will see Comet Lake-S offerings, unofficial roadmaps point to them showing up in the fourth quarter of this year.
