ASUS is at Gamescom 2018 and is showing off a huge number of products at the show. Among the plethora of new gaming gear at the show comes details on the company's anticipated NVIDIA GeForce Strix RTX 2080 Ti and 2080 graphics cards with pre-orders already underway. The video cards include the ROG Strix, ASUS Dual, and ASUS Turbo series of cards. ASUS says that each of those series meets the needs of a different group of gamers and feature new cooling technologies.

Strix GeForce RTX 2080 Ti and 2080 keep the Turing architecture cards cool with new Axial-tech fans. Those fans have smaller hubs that allow for longer blades and a barrier ring that increases structural integrity and downward air pressure through the heatsink on both Strix cards. The new cooling fan design promises to shift more air and spin at higher speeds without making additional noise. ASUS also notes that all Strix cards are built using new Auto-Extreme Technology, an automated process for production. That process allows all soldering to be completed in a single pass and reduces thermal strain on components while eliminating the need for harsh chemicals.

ASUS says that manufacturing tech means less environmental impact, lower manufacturing power consumption, and a more reliable product. The larger cooling solution with the new fan design means that gamers get more overclocking headroom. ASUS didn’t offer any detail on its ASUS Dual and ASUS Turbo series of graphics cards. The Strix video card was leaked over the weekend.

One product that ASUS does get into is its very slick new gaming laptop called the Strix SCAR II (GL704). That gaming notebook crams a 17.3-inch 144Hz, 3ms response time display with complete sRGB coverage into a 15.7-inch chassis. That means you get a gaming notebook sized like a more portable 15.7-inch unit with the screen space of a larger rig. ASUS notes that this is the first laptop in its class to be less than 400mm wide. Displays for the GL704 17.3-inch machine and the GL504 Hero II 15.6-inch version are from AUO and use that company's IPS-type AHVA tech. Both machines sizes use screens with the same refresh rates and sRGB color gamut coverage.

Other than having a big screen in a small package, the Strix SCAR II has powerful hardware available including up to Core i7-8750H CPU and an NVIDIA GTX 1060 GPU with 6GB of video RAM. ROG RangeBoost tech is integrated packing extra antennas inside for better WiFi coverage. The notebook can be fitted with 32GB of DDR4 RAM and storage is via an M.2 NVMe SSD with an optional secondary 1TB SSD hybrid drive. To keep all the hot gaming hardware inside the notebook cool, the rig uses HyperCool Pro cooling tech with three heatsinks and two fans.

The chassis of the notebook is covered in a durable camo and Kevlar texture that ASUS says was inspired by FPS games. Armoury Crate software is installed out of the box and is a new unified platform that controls all settings and lighting with support for game and application profiles. ASUS will launch the Strix SCAR II GL704 gaming notebook in September with pricing and configurations announced closer to launch. It's not clear when the smaller notebook will launch.
