Ryzen Threadripper 2950X And Ryzen 5 2500X Zen+ CPUs Confirmed By AMD
AMD recently updated its product listings [PDF], and in it we see two new members of the Ryzen 3 2000 family along with a new addition to the Ryzen 5 2000 family. Although we don't have any information on specs and clock speeds, the new processors include the Ryzen 3 2100 (YD210BC6M2OFB), the Ryzen 3 2300X (YD230XBBM4KAF) and the Ryzen 5 2500X (YD250XBBM4KAF).
Enthusiasts, however, will no doubt be salivating at the thought of the next wave of Ryzen Threadripper HEDT processors. The arrival of the Ryzen Threadripper 2000 series will be welcome for two reasons: 1) they will likely bring improved performance thanks to the refined Zen+ architecture and 2) their arrival should further push down the prices of the first-generation parts, which are already value-priced.
We don't expect any changes with respect to core counts, so expect for the Ryzen Threadripper 2900X (YD290XA8U8QAF), 2920X (YD292XA8UC9AF) and 2950X (YD295XA8UGAAF) to retain their 8-core/16-thread, 12-core/24-thread, and 16-core/32-core thread configurations. We should, however, see increased clock speeds across the board and memory latency optimizations, as we saw with the already release Ryzen 2000 series desktop processors.
In the end, we shouldn't expect any huge leaps in performance with the new Ryzen and Ryzen Threadripper processors, but they should offer noticeable improvements across the board in single- and multi-core benchmarks, memory latency, and overall system performance as we saw in our review of the Ryzen 7 2700X and Ryzen 5 2600X.
We should mention that there are some new additions on the APU front as well. AMD has already released Raven Ridge-based Ryzen 7 2700U and Ryzen 5 2500U processorswith intreated Radeon Vega graphics. In addition, AMD's own website recently confirmed that low-power Ryzen 5 2400GE and Ryzen 3 2200GE APUsare incoming. The new product list, however, reveals that three additional SKUs are incoming: Ryzen 3 2000U (YM200UC4T2OFB), Ryzen 5 2600U (YM2600C3T4MFB), and Ryzen 7 2800U (YM2800C3T4MFB). The latter will serve as the flagship for AMD's mobility processors.
