HP Chromebook X2 Chrome OS Detachable Is Part Tablet And Part Notebook

HP has unveiled what it claims is the very first Chromebook detachable. The X2 is very thin at 8.2mm thick and it weighs in at 1.62 pounds without the keyboard. If you attach that keyboard to the device, it's 15.3mm thick and 3.14 pounds. HP uses 7th generation Intel Core M processors and up to 8GB of LPDDR3 RAM inside with a battery that promises all-day run time.

The connection between the tablet portion and the island-style full-size keyboard is a magnetic hinge that makes for easy detaching when needed. The hinge has the rigidity needed to keep the tablet section upright for use as a notebook and in multiple modes. Both touch and pen functionality are supported, and with the pen users can handwrite on the screen.

HP coats the device in a ceramic white anodized aluminum finish and leather-like surface in Oxford Blue for the detachable keyboard. Corning Gorilla Glass 4 covers the 12.3-inch touchscreen display to resist scratches. The device is built to run Android apps for the Google Play store as a tablet or notebook. Internal storage is up to 32GB with a microSD card slot that increases that to as much as 256GB.

The machine also has a B&O Play audio system and a 5MP front camera and 13MP rear camera. Connectivity options include a pair of USB Type C ports for data transfer, charging, and display along with the microSD card slot and audio ports. The specific Intel processor under the hood for the model launching in June is the Intel Core M3-7Y30 with 1GHz base and up to 2.6GHz Turbo Boost and the machine has 4GB of RAM. The resolution for the screen is 2400 x 1600 and graphics are handled by Intel Graphics HD 615. WiFi and Bluetooth are included along with the HP Active Pen for the $599.99 price.
