Cadillac was once considered the "Standard of the World" when it came to luxurious automobiles. However, in the U.S. market at least, the company's sedans and coupes haven't exactly been setting buyers' hearts afire. Cadillac is looking to change that with the introduction of an all-new engine that [for now] is exclusive to the marque.

We introduce to you Cadillac's first-ever twin-turbocharged V8 engine; a 4.2-liter unit that pumps out a healthy 550 horsepower and a stump-pulling 627 lb-ft of torque. This is a clean-slate design that is infused with twin-scroll turbochargers, electronic wastegate control, direct injection, cylinder deactivation and stop/start technology. Those last two features will help to improve overall fuel economy for this performance beast.

“Designing an all-new engine was the best way to achieve the performance goals for the CT6 V-Sport,” said Jordan Lee, chief engineer for the engine. “It builds on Cadillac’s well-established turbocharging know-how and forges new ground with innovative features that deliver exceptional performance and refinement.”

Cadillac will also offer a slightly detuned version engine that is rated for 500 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque. The refreshed Cadillac CT6 V-Sport will receive the "hot" motor, while the regular CT6 will be available with the "weaker" engine. In either vehicle, the engine is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

The refreshed CT6 family receives slightly tweaked front and rear fascias (the rear taillights now feature horizontal design elements to compliment Cadillac's traditional vertical lamps). For the techies at heart (which should be all of us), the interior has been revamped with an all-new, 10-inch 1080p display, 5-watt wireless charger for your smartphone, cloud-based navigation (which takes advantage of the vehicles' 4G LTE connection), and rear seat infotainment options including USB, HDMI and Wi-Fi connections.

Super Cruise autonomous driving functionality is available on all CT6 models with the exception of the hot-rod V-Sport. Other driver-assist aides include a second-generation Rear Camera Mirror, Forward Collision Alert, Lane Change Alert, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Forward/Reverse Automatic Braking. Automatic Parking Assist is also available for those that can't be bothered with parking their car by themselves.

Pricing and availability for the new 2019 Cadillac CT6 and CT6 V-Sport is unknown at this time.
