VW Debuts ID Vizzion Flagship EV Concept With 400-Mile Range At Geneva Auto Show
This is just the latest of VW's I.D. EV concepts and will represent the flagship vehicle in this product family. This particular sedan is built using VW's corporate MEB vehicle architecture, and is quite large for an electric vehicle (EV). It has a lengthy 122-inch wheelbase and measures 203.3 inches in length. For comparison, the Tesla Model S has a wheelbase of 116.5 inches and measures 198 inches from bumper to bumper.
When it comes to the powertrain, there is a 101hp coaxial drive motor for the front axle, and a 201hp motor for the rear axle. Total system output is listed at 302 horsepower for the all-wheel-drive vehicle. Driving range is one of the most looked at performance metrics with respect to electric vehicles. In this case, VW is quoting a drive range of 413 miles on the European Cycle. That should translate in to high 300s for U.S. EPA testing if all goes according to plan.
Given that the I.D. Vizzion is still a concept at this point, its interior is really "out there" compared to current production vehicles. It is pictured as a completely autonomous vehicle, so there is no steering wheel. There's also no dashboard, so interactions with the vehicle take placing using a virtual interface that is projected within the cockpit using augmented reality technology. The driver and passengers are recognized using a biometric facial recognition, and can setup individualized profiles for seating, climate control and infotainment services.
According to Volkswagen, the I.D. Vizzion will go into production starting in 2022.
