Lenovo’s Miix 520 Tablet Joins Yoga 920 Convertible Flexing 8th Gen Kaby Lake-R Muscle
Lenovo has a few new convertibles and detachables that it announced today at IFA, including two new Yoga devices and a new addition to the Miix family. Starting with the convertibles, we have the new flagship Yoga 920, which features a 13-inch form-factor.
The Yoga 920’s 13.9-inch display can be configured with either a Full HD (1920x1080) or 4K (3840x2160) panel (both IPS touch screens). It’s also the first Yoga device to incorporate Intel’s new eight generation “Kaby Lake Refresh” processors, which provide four cores and eight threads for added productivity muscle. Standard configurations come with 8GB of DDR4 memory, but you can opt for 16GB. PCIe SSDs are standard across the board, available in 256GB, 512GB and 1TB capacities.
Other features include 2x2 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, two Thunderbolt 3 ports (USB-C compatible), one USB 3.0 port, an audio jack and a fingerprint reader for Windows Hello biometric authentication. JBL speakers are included, and Dolby Atmos audio us supported via headphones.
As you would expect from the Yoga family, the 3.02-pound Yoga 920 features an all-metal unibody design (available in Platinum Silver or Bronze) with Lenovo’s famed watchband hinge, which can rotate the display 360 degrees. Inside the chassis, you’ll find a 70 WHr battery that provides up to 10.8 hours of runtime with the 4K model and 15.5 hours of runtime with the FHD display option.
Moving down the line, there’s also the Yoga 720, which Lenovo says is its “most portable and compact Yoga yet”. The Yoga 720 features a 12.5-inch Full HD display with an anti-glare coating. You’ll find standard Kaby Lake processors here available in Core i3, Core i5 and Core i7 varieties (with either 4GB or 8GB of DDR4 memory). SATA SSDs are standard across the board, available in 128GB, 256GB and 512GB capacities.
Like its bigger brother, the 2.53-pound Yoga 720 features the expected 802.11ac and Bluetooth 4.1 wireless connectivity, but ditches Thunderbolt 3 in favor or USB-C. You also won’t find the watchband hinge (although you still get the full 360-degrees of motion), and the battery measures in at 36 WHr, which is good enough for 8 hours of battery life. The Yoga 720 will be available in Platinum Silver, Iron Grey or Black.
Rounding out the refreshed portable family is the Miix 520, which is powered by a Kaby Lake R Core i5 processor. The form-factor of the Miix 520 is similar to that of that Surface Pro and includes a built-in kickstand. The tablet features a 12.2-inch Full HD display, 8GB of memory, a 256GB PCIe SSD and a 39 WHr battery that is good for 7.5 hours of usage. The tablet itself weighs 1.94 pounds, but that rises to 2.77 pounds with its detachable keyboard.
All three devices will be available in October, with the Yoga 920, Yoga 729 and Miix 520 priced from $1,3299, $649 and $999 respectively.
