Google Backup And Sync App Now Live For Photos And Google Drive

Do you backup your files and photos on a regular basis? Most of us know that we should be backing up our data, but for one reason or another—usually the inconvenience of it all—we don't. That is like playing with fire, especially if you have important files that you either cannot afford to lose, or would strongly prefer you didn't. Well, Google is making things easier with a new app for both PC and Mac systems.

It is called Backup and Sync and it works with both Google Drive and Google Photos. This is something Google aimed to release last month but was delayed for some last minute tweaking. It is now ready to download, and with it users can backup and sync just about anything on their storage devices, including photos and videos residing on cameras, files on USB drives, and so forth.

"You probably keep your most important files and photos in different places—your computer, your phone, various SD cards, and that digital camera you use from time to time. It can be a challenge to keep all these things safe, backed up, and organized, so today we’re introducing Backup and Sync. It’s a simpler, speedier and more reliable way to protect the files and photos that mean the most to you. This new tool replaces the existing Google Photos desktop uploader and Drive for Mac/PC," Google explains.


Using Google's new Backup and Sync software could not be easier. All you need to do is select the folders that you want backed up and the application will handle the rest. The neat thing about this is not only that it is easy to use, but that it works with all of your connected devices and memory cards.

As this new tool replaces existing desktop uploader for Google Photos and Google Drive, it will retain any existing settings that you have already applied to your PC or Mac. So, if you already use one or the other, you will not have to reconfigure anything.

If you are a business user using G Suite, Google advises against using this new tool. Instead, it is getting ready to roll out an enterprise-focused version called Drive File Stream. That should be available soon.
