Porsche 911 GT2 RS Delivers 700 Horsepower Knockout Punch, 211 MPH Top Speed

Porsche is hardly a company that stands still technologically (even if its vehicle design evolution moves at a glacial pace), which is why the company is officially spilling all the beans on its all-new 997-generation 911 GT2 RS. Porsche gave us a sneak peek at the new supercar at the Xbox One X unveil to coincide with a Forza Motorsport 7 showcase, but now we have some astonishing performance numbers to back up the scintillating good looks.

For starters, there is of course a flat-6 engine hanging over the real axle — in this case, a 3.8-liter twin-turbo unit that is based on the design found in the 911 Turbo S. However, in the 911 GT2 RS, the engine makes a murderous 700 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque. That’s a hell of a lot of horsepower in a vehicle that weighs just 3,241 pounds when loaded up with a full tank of premium gasoline.

However, Porsche just drove a stake through the heart of purists when it comes to transmission choice, as you’ll only be able to get the PDK dual-clutch unit sending power to [only] the rear wheels — you won’t find a 6- or 7-speed manual with this track monster. Once you buckle in stomp your foot on the gas, the 911 GT2 RS will rocket to 60 mph in just 2.7 seconds, although we have the feeling that that figure is highly conservative. Top speed is listed at 211 mph and Porsche says that it will blow past the Lamborghini Huracán Performante on the Nürburgring (which manages to hustle around the circuit in 6 minutes, 52 seconds).

Massive 20-inch wheels are mounted up front, while larger 21-inch wheels fill out the swollen rear fenders. Porsche’s Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB) are standard equipment, while the front fenders, wheel housing vents, exterior mirrors, trunk lid and various other body components are constructed of carbon fiber to reduce weight. The roof panel is made of strong and lightweight magnesium. If you’re willing to part with an additional $31,000, Porsche will install the Weissach package, which ups the carbon fiber content and adds magnesium wheels to reduce unsprung weight. The Weissach package reduces weight by 40 pounds.

Inside the 911 GT2 RS, you’ll find a racing-centric interior that is swathed in black leather, red Alcantara (even for the headliner), carbon-fiber shelled racing bucket seats and a partial roll cage.

The 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS will be available in the United States in early 2018 with a starting price of $293,200. But, if you’re already spending close to $300,000 on a supercar, you might as well pitch in the extra $31,000 for the Weissach package, right?
