Nintendo Reportedly Prepping SNES Mini For Late 2017 Launch Following NES Classic Exit

We understand that it has been difficult for many consumers to find a system, and for that we apologize. We have paid close attention to consumer feedback, and we greatly appreciate the incredible level of consumer interest and support for this product.

According to a new report from Eurogamer, Nintendo likely pushed the NES Classic Edition aside to make way for a miniaturized version of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). This so-called “SNES Mini” will be ready to launch in time for the Christmas shopping season according to “sources close to the company”.

The original NES was likely the first home gaming console that many people of a certain age (those in their late 30s and early 40s) ever owned, and the NES Classic Edition helped to fuel those early childhood memories. The rumored SNES Mini has the potential to become an even bigger hit, given some of the awesome games that were available on that platform including Super Mario World, Super Mario Kart, Donkey Kong Country, and Street Fighter II Turbo.

However, if this rumor does come to fruition, we surely hope that Nintendo cranks out enough of these consoles to meet demand. We can almost forgive Nintendo for underestimating the demand of the NES Classic Edition, but there is no excuse for a repeat disappointment (for gamers) this time around. And while you’re at it, could you please provide a longer cord for the included controller this time around? We’d all greatly appreciate it.
