Ferrari 812 Superfast Is Italian Marque’s Most Powerful, Fastest Production Car Yet With 789 HP And 212 MPH Top Speed
Once you get past the “Superfast” name, you’ll want to first take a look at what’s lurking under the long hood of the vehicle: a 6.5-liter naturally-aspirated V12 with a staggering 789 horsepower (which is delivered at 8,500 RPM). Torque mongers aren’t left out, as the motor puts out 530 ft-lbs of twist at a lofty 7,000 RPM.
This is likely the last naturally-aspirated V12 that we’ll ever see from Ferrari, which is a shame. The quest for even more power and reduced emissions means that we will be seeing more turbos and hybrids invading its supercar/hypercar lineup.
Sending all of that power to the rear wheels is a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, which is good enough to rocket the [relatively lightweight at 3,362 pounds] 812 Superfast from a standstill to 60 mph in just 2.9 seconds. While a sub-3-second 0-60 time is impressive, it will still get embarrassed by a Tesla P100D in Ludicrous Mode.
Top speed is listed at 212+ MPH, although you’re gonna need a lot of road or a race circuit to test out that limit. The supercar is fitted with Ferrari’s second generation Virtual Short Wheelbase technology, which is a fancy way of saying that it has four-wheel steering. The 812 Superfast also features Ferrari’s fifth-generation Side Slip Control (SSC) which allows you to pull off some monster drifts, and it is actually the first Ferrari to use electric power steering.
That leads us to the styling. The 812 Superfast is a clear evolution of the F12 Berlinetta, but has a few more swoops and slashes thrown in for good measure. The dual taillights have been tossed in favor of a quad arrangement, which match up nicely with the quad exhausts. We’re still not quite sold on the new wheel design, but we’ll let it pass given how tasty the rest of the package looks.
Ferrari hasn’t yet given any pricing details on the 812 Superfast, but its predecessor starts at around $325,000.
