T-Mobile ONE Adds HD Video And 4G Hotspot As CEO Legere Mocks Verizon Unlimited

Yesterday, Verizon announced its return to unlimited 4G LTE data plans with Verizon Unlimited. At a cost of $80 per month, Verizon Unlimited provides unlimited data, text and talk (even to Mexico and Canada) along with 10GB of Mobile Hotspot.

However, T-Mobile CEO John Legere just can’t sit back and let Verizon hog all the spotlight when it comes to wireless plans. This is especially true considering that America’s No. 1 wireless carrier subtly knocked T-Mobile ONE’s inclusions of “only” 480p video streaming.

To counter the Verizon Unlimited threat, T-Mobile ONE has been upgraded from 480p to HD streaming video, and 10GB of mobile Hotspot functionality is included (matching Verizon Unlimited on both accounts). Previously, T-Mobile ONE only provided 3G speeds for hotspot data. All of this starts at $70 per month with a single line, and rises to $100 per month with two lines.

“I don’t blame Verizon for caving. They just lost their network advantage, and they know it … and more importantly, more and more customers know it. Their back’s against the wall,” said Legere. “This is what the Un-carrier does—drag the carriers kicking and screaming into the future. Next up, we’re going to force them to include monthly taxes and fees. Mark my words.”

Legere also rightly points out that T-Mobile ONE undercuts Verizon Unlimited across the board on pricing, and that all taxes and fees are included in the prices that you see. Not only are Verizon Unlimited prices higher, but you have to add around $5 to $20 in additional taxes/fees depending on how many lines you select.

The new T-Mobile ONE upgrades go into effect on February 17th.
