Alienware Rolls In With VR Urban Assault Vehicle At Dell EMC World 2016
If you're tuning into the sites and sounds of Dell EMC World 2016 this week in Austin, Texas, you'll hear a lot about "modernizing the data center" with Dell EMC Infrastructure products, from servers to big iron storage. However, Dell is also showcasing new technologies near and dear to consumers, that are designed and built in Dell's Client Solutions group -- the personal computing business unit most folks are familiar with.
During his morning keynote Jeff Clarke, Vice Chairman of Operations and President of Client Solutions for Dell, introduced Frank Azor, VP and General Manager of Dell's Alienware and XPS product lines. Jeff and Frank reminisced about the history of Alienware, along with some of the company's firsts in PC gaming, from the first water-cooled desktop PCs to the first gaming notebooks to hit the market, but then Frank transitioned to a new market opportunity he's rather passionate about lately -- Virtual Reality.

Powered by the new Alienware Aurora R5 that we took a look at here, with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 under the hood pushing the pixels and driving the immersion, Alienware's VR fueled assault truck was a heavily attended booth at the show. Though gaming was the showpiece, Azor discussed the many potential powerful use cases for VR, from commercial real estate to medical applications and beyond.
The Dell Alienware team was also showcasing its refreshed and redesigned AW 15 and AW 17 inch gaming notebooks, powered by Intel's Skylake Core series processors and NVIDIA Mobile GeForce 10 GPUs. As an aside, we're told we have a new Alienware notebook inbound for review any day now, so stay tuned for all of the usual nitty-gritty gaming goodness in the next couple of weeks.
