HTC Adds Premium Trimmings To Mid-range Desire 10 Lifestyle, Pro Smartphones

HTC hasn’t exactly found a winning sales formula with its flagship Android smartphones, and its most recent mid-range entry — the One A9s — didn’t exactly win over the critics. However, HTC is looking to try again with its new Desire 10 smartphones, which add a dash of style to its mainstream Android offerings.

The two smartphones — the Desire 10 Pro and Desire 10 Lifestyle — are nearly indistinguishable from one another on the outside, sharing the same sleek exterior design. Both are constructed primarily of glass (5.5-inch display size) and plastic, but they do include metal trim and gold accents to give them a more premium feel. Likewise, both models are available in Stone Black, Polar White, Royal Blue, and Valentine Lux (which is sort of mint green color).

The main differences come down to specs. As its name implies the Pro is the beefier of the two with a 1080p display resolution, MediaTek Helio P10 processor, 4GB RAM, 64GB internal storage, 20MP rear camera, 13MP selfie camera, a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, and a 3000 mAh battery. The Lifestyle is clearly a step or two behind with a 720p display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor with 2GB or 3GB RAM, 16GB or 32GB internal storage, 13MP rear camera, 5MP front-facing camera and a 2700 mAh battery. The Lifestyle also doesn’t come with the Pro’s fingerprint reader.

Unfortunately, both smartphones ship with Android 6.0 Marshmallow instead of Android 7.0 Nougat. HTC was apparently unable to score the same sweet deal as LG which allowed it to quickly bring Nougat-flavored smartphones to a global audience.

The Desire 10 Lifestyle will make its first appearance today in the UK and other European markets with a price tag of £249. The Desire 10 Pro is set to launch next month, but its pricing has yet to be revealed. Unfortunately, pricing and availability for either phone in U.S. market has not yet been determined.
