Acer Predator 17X Notebook And G1 Desktop Are Virtual Reality-Ready Gaming Powerhouses

Acer is expanding its Predator gaming lineup once again, and the latest members to this rowdy group include a new notebook, desktop and a family of curved display monitors. According to Acer, these new Predator products are all “virtual reality-ready” out of the box.

First up is the Predator 17X notebook, which as its name implies comes with a 17.3-inch display -- G-SYNC-enabled of course. Unlike many 17.3-inch panels that come with a 1080p screen resolution, the Predator 17X is packing a 4K display (3840×2160). Powering the machine is an Intel Core i7-6820HK Skylake processor and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 GPU — both of which can be overclocked via software (4GHz for the CPU, 1.31GHz for the GPU).

And this wouldn’t be a gaming machine without at least one SSD onboard. Thankfully, the Predator 17X has three SATA SSDs in a RAID 0 array. Other features include DDR4-2133 memory support, Killer DoubleShot Pro Ethernet/Wi-Fi connections and Thunderbolt 3 support.

This beast weighs in at a back-breaking 10 pounds, but we don’t expect that you’ll be lifting this off your desk very often. And given the power lurking under the RGB-backlit keyboard, you you wouldn’t want to stray too far away from a power outlet anyway -- the Predator 17X only lasts 3 hours to a charge, two hours less than the Predator 17.

The Predator 17X will be available in June with a starting price of $2,799.

Next up is the Predator G1, a compact but potent gaming desktop that supports Skylake processors and up to an NVIDIA Titan X GPU. You can also configure the machine with up to 64GB of memory, up to a 4TB HDD or 512GB SSD. Although you won’t find Thunderbolt 3 support, the Predator G1 does, however, include USB 3.1 Type-C ports and Killer DoubleShot Pro.

The Predator G1 desktop arrives in July with a starting price of $2,299. And the first 1,000 people to order the Predator G1 will receive a free suitcase that has been custom designed to fit the PC.

The last addition to the Predator family is the Z1 monitor series, which is available in 27-, 30-, and 31.5-inch sizes. All three feature NVIDIA G-SYNC technology and 1800R curved displays. Acer specifically called out the 30-inch model which has a 2560x1080 display, 100 percent sRGB color gamut, 4ms gray-to-gray response time, up to a 200Hz refresh rate and a 178-degree viewing angle.

The Predator Z1 monitor series starts at $599 (which we’re assuming is for the 27-inch model) and goes up from there when they launch in June. Unfortunately, Acer has given us pricing for the two larger models.
