Samsung Officially Debuts Mammoth 18.4-inch Galaxy View Tablet With 8-Hour Battery
Today, Samsung has officially launched the Android 5.1 Lollipop-powered 18.4-inch Galaxy View, which looks somewhat like a hybrid between a smallish TV and an Android tablet. As we reported earlier, the display is Full HD resolution and “has been designed with a video-centric interface in mind.”
The focus on media content is readily apparent in the image below which shows a number of streaming services that Samsung has partnered with including Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, Crackle, and Twitch.
Interestingly enough, Samsung also includes a nano SIM slot which will allow you to connect to the Internet and stream content on the go. Given today’s metered cellular connections, streaming Hulu or Netflix may be a tall order, especially considering that its awkward proportions and nearly 5-pound heft doesn’t exactly scream “portability.”
“At Samsung, we are committed to creating new possibilities and bringing our consumers the best mobile experience,” said JK Shin, CEO and Head of Samsung’s IT & Mobile Business. “We are very excited to introduce the new Galaxy View, providing an entirely new way of consuming mobile video and entertainment.”
If Adorama’s product page was accurate (the company posted a product page for the Galaxy View earlier this week, then promptly took it down — good thing we have access to Google Cache), the Galaxy View will be priced at $599, will include 32GB of onboard storage, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, and a 5,700mAh battery that is good for over 8 hours of runtime with untethered from a wall. A 64GB model will also be offered, but we don't yet have pricing for that particular model.
