Dell's XPS 13 Stuns With Quad HD Display And 15-Hour Battery Life, Alienware Notebooks Refreshed
Dell is stepping up its game for the Consumer Electronics Show, and is launching what it deems the “best portfolio of consumer devices in company history.” The company is rolling out a number of new products including the XPS 13, new Alienware 15 and 17 gaming notebooks, and the Venue 8 7000 Series tablet.
We’re going to start our coverage with the XPS 13, which Dell says is the smallest 13-inch laptop in the world. Dell is able to claim this feat by using what it calls an infinity display that is virtually borderless (the bezels measure just 5.2mm), allowing the XPS 13 to maintain the external dimensions typically found in an 11-inch notebook. Dell also says that the XPS 13 has the longest battery life of any 13-inch notebook, clocking in at 15 hours on a charge (this can be extended an additional 7 to 8 hours with the optional Dell Power Companion.

But that’s not all, the XPS 13 is available with the latest fifth generation Intel Core processors (up to Core i7) and is available with an optional UltraSharp Quad HD+ (3200x1800) display. The XPS 13 also weighs in at just 2.6 pounds, but amazingly enough, that seems downright porky compared to the recently announced 13-inch Lenovo LaVie Z HZ550 which weighs just 1.72 pounds.
The XPS 15 also receives an UltraSharp 4K Ultra HD display option, but that’s the only major addition to that particular model.
Up next are a pair of gaming laptops: the Alienware 15 and Alienware 17. Both machines are over 20 percent thinner than their predecessors and include fifth generation Intel Core processor (yes, you can get a Core i7 if you wish). The two Alienware notebooks will be available with an optional NVIDIA GTX 980m graphics card and are both compatible with the Alienware Graphics Amplifier.

The XPS 13, Alienware 15, and Alienware 17 are available today, priced at $799.99, $1,199, and $1,499 respectively. The XPS 15 with 4k Ultra Display will set you back a whopping $2,349.
Dell is also announcing the immediate availability of the previously announced Venue 8 7000 Series tablet. As you already know, the Venue 8 7000 Series is the world’s thinnest tablet at just 6mm thick and features a gorgeous 2560x1600 OLED edge-to-edge display. It also incorporates a quad-core Intel Atom Z3580 processor and 16GB of internal storage (a microSD slot is included if you want to further expand your available storage).

Venue 8 7000 Series
On the rear of the device you’ll find Intel’s RealSense Snapshot Depth Camera system, which uses two 720p stereoscopic sensors and a single 8MP camera. The system allows you to capture images with great depth and allows you to refocus images after they’re already been captured.
You can pickup the tablet starting today from Dell.com or Best Buy for $399. And while the Venue 8 7000 Series is currently only available in Wi-Fi versions, an LTE model will come at a later date.
